[Texas Tuesday] Born in Palestine, Texas, Jessie Ames was a famous civil rights activist in the early 20th century. Despite the massive opposition she faced, Jessie Ames organized a massive voting drive and helped Texas become the first state to ratify the 19th amendment, which gave women the right to vote. After this victory, she became one of the first people to speak out against lynching. Because of her courage and the support she received, the number of lynchings decreased dramatically in Texas. #WomensRights #CivilRights #19thAmendment #TexasTuesday

On June 6, 1998, a capsule containing musings and memorabilia of various active and retired 20th century Texas Rangers was donated to the Texas Ranger Museum in Waco, TX. This steel time capsule, encased in a stone-covered concrete vault, is set to be opened in 2098. Beside it stands a bronze statue of George B. Erath, a Republic of Texas-era Ranger. #TexasRangerMuseum #WacoTX #Waco
