DAILY ! Who wants to loose their balance⁉️No one! So let's be playful (& as long as you can do this safely & it is permitted you) throw in balance challenges to our daily #workout routinesπŸ’₯❗️And why not try handstanding! Scorpioning on a Sunday πŸ¦‚ Working on not sacrificing my core integrity just to get my toes to my head so I stay safe & in control πŸ’ͺ🏼 Historically I’m a lot more flexible than I am strong but this #100daysofhandstands shindig is really helping me to gain strength in all the right places! I tore my left hamstring at the insertion point (a$$ attachment) years ago & it used to bother me like crazy when I’d practice #handstands 😫 but these little toe to wrist taps felt great! By keeping my core (including my glutes) engaged & pelvis neutral I’m not putting unnecessary strain on that sensitive little hammy. 5 years ago today I taught my very first yoga class! It was a traditional 90 minute hot @baptisteyoga class, & I had poured over Journey into Power for countless hours to prepare. I made flash cards to study the Sanskrit translations of postures, & I’m sure I could have recited the JIP sequence backward if necessary. I had only been practicing for 6 months, but the stars had aligned, & when asked if I wanted to teach, I KNEW in my bones I was ready. I remember I was so nervous leaving empty space & spent the whole class speaking & adjusting postures- making sure the students in the room thought I was worthy to be their leader. In the 5 years since, I’ve racked up 3500 teaching hours, two 200-hour certifications, several other distinctions, & I own a studio. But none of this makes me more worthy to lead than I was that first day. What makes me worthy is my passion, my presence, & my wisdom. And now I CRAVE the space. The space is where my students discover something new for themselves. The space is where we offer up old conditioning to be released, so we can allow in new possibilities. The space- between poses, between breaths, between thoughts, between words, between emotions & reactions. Give yourself some space. Day #3 of #100daysofhandstands and that .2 seconds felt like an eternity but enough for me for today! And yes, I'm in a hotel πŸ˜‚
But seriously, I did about 20 minutes of yoga before this to warm up my shoulders and neck. To practice engaging my core and zipping up my inner thighs and opening my body because if I fell backwards I didn't want to hurt myself right before a wedding.. but when the moment came to it I was more focused on how quickly the blood rushed to my head and I how I couldn't find my breath. After about two seconds I felt my weight dump into my shoulders and my mindset go "Shit.".. but for two quick seconds I allowed myself to be "still". My alignment is all off, my feet aren't connected, and I don't even know where my breath went. Main point? I did it. I was up briefly but learned what I need the most: my breath, per usual. So I'll be practicing breathing AND floating. .

My head is finally clearing up. I haven't been sick, but the chatter in my mind has been at a high volume hum for a couple of weeks now and after talking in circles on the phone last night with a girlfriend it finally stopped. Like I'm the teacher of a classroom full of constant talking and I finally said "Ok, enough." And it all stopped. I control my thoughts, my emotions, responses & reactions, my subconscious however has been controlling me and I think I've finally allowed my consciousness to speak through... maybe all I needed was to get upside down for a few second to let it all fall out of my head, aka, gain a different perspective.

"Epic Fail." Were the first words that came to mind as I hit the mat for #100daysofhandstands as I instantly just crawled on my mat and plopped down in child's pose. I was doing the exact opposite of what I was supposed to be doing but then I realized maybe that's the point of this?
Maybe it's my purpose to honor where I'm at in that moment.

Joining the lovely @nothingbutpilates and @gillylithgow in #100daysofhandstands ▫️Hoping to still film a video of my handstand practice and wall climbs this week to share on how I prepare▫️It's all in the hands and using them to 'steer' having the shoulders somewhat protracted with a feeling of pushing yourself away from the earth then lastly and very important...establishing that 'hollow body hold' position, connecting & drawing the belly button and abdominals as far back into the spine as possible, using the glutes to draw the tail slightly down, tilting the Pelvis forward to make that connection to the front of the ribcage by means of the abdominals
