Day 28 of the #0318planes challenge and today we are Yellow.
Civilian planes dont belong at an airshow or so say a lot of people I have interacted with on forums. I think they have their place and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing this plane being put through its paces at RIAT. Hugely impressive.

Day 31, the final day of the #0318planes challenge, and we are ending with the Royal Air Force, very fitting in their centenary year, and indeed the day before they get to celebrate it.

The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows, is the thing that sparked my interest in aviation. Watching them as a kid, sitting on my dad's shoulders to see over the crowds, I was amazed even then. I couldn't let today's theme pass without paying tribute to them for giving all of us so much enjoyment over the years. They are having a difficult time at the moment with the tragic loss of Cpl Jonathan Bayliss, may he rest in peace. And I wish Red 3, David Stark, a quick and complete recovery from his injuries. My image shows the team doing what they do best, thrilling us all with the Gypo Break.
Thanks to #kjdphoto1971 for organising this challenge, it's been fantastic to see so many great images each day and find even more people to follow and inspire me. Hoping to meet some of you on the display circuit this year. Come say Hi! 😊

Totally adore this photo and caption (see below!) from @r.a.d._photography ♥️. Owning a plane like this would be SUCH a dream. Looks like a heck of a lot of fun.

Sometimes the smallest cub makes the loudest roar. Day 4 of the March photo challenge brings the Piper Cub of @koontz.greg for the subect of “felines”.

Day 13 of #0318planes for @kjdphoto1971. Today's title is Storm so here is a BAe Systems Typhoon at RAF Coningsby on a @centreofaviationphotography nightshoot back in October 2017. It was not only exceptionally cold but it was blowing a gale at the best of times. How we managed even with tripods is beyond me. Taken with my Canon EOS 7D MKII and Canon L series 24-70mm IS USM. ⏬AVIATIONPHOTOGRAPHERS⏬

“Off We Go”

This magnificent B-17 was the star of the very first Wings & Wheels show I ever attended at Teterboro Airport.

The Northrop N-9M was a 1/3 scale, 60-ft span all-wing aircraft used for the development of the full- size, 172-ft wingspan Northrop XB-35 and YB-35 flying wing long-range, heavy bomber.
The order for these planes started with one aircraft, was increased to three aircraft and later a fourth N-9M was ordered months after a crash of the first N-9M destroyed that airframe. This fourth N-9M incorporated various flight test-derived improvements and upgrades, including different, more powerful engines. The four aircraft were designated N-9M-1, -2, -A, and -B, respectively.

The aircraft were originally powered by two 290 hp Menasco C6S-1 "Buccaneer"inverted air-cooled straight-six engines, driving twin-bladed propellers, except for the N-9MB which was powered by two 300 hp Franklin XO-540-7engines.

When Northrop's Flying Wing bomber program was canceled, all remaining N-9M flight test aircraft, except for the final N-9MB, were scrapped. This is that final B model.

I wasn't going to run a challenge this past month, in fact i wasn't going to run one again at all. They do take a lot of time and effort to run, and although i absolutely love seeing all the images you guys submit. I have to admit that over the last couple of challenges, my own enthusiasm for them had began to wain a bit. But a few of you had asked me, and a few of those kept on asking me, so i thought i would give it another shot. One last chance to see if i could rekindle my own love affair with them. Well, it wasn't an easy month. 3/4s of the way through a sad day for anyone who has the slightest link to the aviation world threw a curve ball at me. I had to turn to a few friends, who join in and who don't, to find it was right to continue. It isn't the first challenge of mine to come over a time of an aviation related tragedy. A chance comment about the colour of my clothes made a huge difference this time.
The challenge for me this time was to see if i wanted to carry on running these, well its going to be very difficult to say no to 176 of you in the future. You guys broke new ground this time. Every single one of you stepped up your game, and showed what people can produce when they combine their own eyes with a piece of technology, and there are 2800+ examples of it out there. There hasn't been a single day when i have not had my breath taken away by the standard of the images submitted.
I know i say it each time, but it really is the absolute truth, i just coordinate (sometimes not perfectly) these challenges. But it's all of you, 176 of you this time, who really make them what they are. And that is a community, and with that, a bloody good one. I have had the pleasure of meeting many of you, i have the greater pleasure of having a few i consider friends. But i have the absolute honour to be considered a friend by a good number of you.
Many of you don't join in to win, in fact probably all of you. Coming 1st, 3rd, 7th or 29th is by the by. Corny it may be, but you all win, you all find someone new to follow, more inspiration. But i think i won this time. Well it certainly feels like it.
Thank you for joining in
