l Henan Tour : Sanyangzhuang ; 河南之旅：三楊莊 l
As a Chinese common saying goes, “Travelling brings about far greater benefit than mere book learning”. The travel experience that you will get is different from the travel books. Similarly, nothing beats travelling to historic heritage and exploring your way around a city’s history and culture.
It is such a precious opportunity that Chinese Cultural Studies Center and Henan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology (HPICRA) will jointly hold the Henan tour which HPICRA will lead us into several key archaeological sites to a richer and deeper extent than what is usually open to the public.
Described as China’s Pompeii, Sanyangzhuang was buried by a significant flood ca. C.E. 14-17. Because of the low-energy flooding, the site, which consists of four excavated agricultural house compounds and surrounding ridged agricultural fields, was slowly buried by fine-grained sediments leading to remarkable preservation of archaeological features. The site provides significant and rare insights into how the lower class of the Han period lived. Sanyangzhuang is one of the exclusive sites in this Henan tour. With archaeologists guiding the tour, the history of Han Dynasty and people’s life at that time are no longer merely words and pictures on books but something you can explore closely.
