Often, especially in the day and age where social media is a necessity, people adopt animals because they are cute. In many cases, people do not take into account their specific needs, resulting in an unhappy animal.
Did you know...?:
-hedgehogs and sugar gliders are nocturnal
-corgis and bunnies require plenty of space to roam to avoid depression and withdrawal
-hedgehogs and corgis are prone to degenerative diseases that cause paralysis over time (corgis-degenerative myelopathy, hedgehogs-wobbly hedgehog syndrome)
-sugar gliders and corgis are both noisy, and bark quite a lot (yes, sugar gliders BARK)
-bunnies, corgis, hedgehogs and sugar gliders all require plenty of attention to establish a bond, ESPECIALLY sugar gliders and hedgehogs
-sugar gliders and hedgehogs are messy, therefore need cleanings often. Hedgehogs also need weekly to bi-weekly baths
-bunnies, hedgehogs and sugar gliders all need specialized vets (which is why having hedgehogs in states that are illegal is a bad idea)
-bunnies and hedgehogs should not be "starter pets" for bunnies can live to be 10+ years, and hedgehogs require a large amount of dedication
-outside of dogs and cats, bunnies are the most surrendered pet
-hedgehogs and sugar gliders are not rodents, and should never be compared to hamsters
-hedgehogs require a lightless heat set up to prevent (fatal) hibernation
-unlike hedgehogs who are solitary, sugar gliders must have a pal
-sugar gliders are predators, therefore, small animals such as mice and birds should be kept separate
-sugar gliders require a very specific, and likely costly, diet
-bunnies need to be potty-trained, and their (human) house should be bunny-proofed to prevent injuries
Before adopting any animal, please be sure that you can meet all their specific needs. Each animal is unique, and requires special care. Please do research before buying ANY animal, to be sure you can give it the best life possible. And please, for the sake of your pet, do not buy an animal because it is cute and trendy. .
