2013 BERLIN - DEUTSCHLAND. This ate the left is the Berlin Cathedral (Berliner Dom); short name for the Evangelical Supreme Parish and Collegiate Church in Berlin, Germany. It is located on Museum Island in the Mitte borough. The building was finished in 1905 and is a main work of Historicist architecture of the "Kaiserzeit". The Berlin Cathedral has never been a cathedral in the actual sense of that term since it has never been the seat of a bishop. To the right on the picture we can see the Berliner Fernsehturm, which is a Television tower constructed between 1965 and 1969 by the administration of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). It was intended as a symbol of Berlin, which it remains today, as it is easily visible throughout the central and some suburban districts of Berlin. With its height of 368 meters, it is the tallest structure in Germany, and the second tallest structure in the European Union (by a half-metre). When the sun shines on the Fernsehturm's tiled stainless steel dome, the reflection usually appears in the form of a cross. This effect was not anticipated by the architect. Berliners nicknamed the luminous cross Rache des Papstes, or the "Pope's Revenge". For the same reasons, the structure was also called "St. Walter”. The tower has become one of the most prominent symbols of the country and is often in the establishing shot of films set in Berlin. Due to its location near Alexanderplatz, it is occasionally called Alex Tower. There is a lot of more things to say about this short visit to Berlin but it will be on a next time.
