Life speaks the language of synchronicities. A few mornings ago, I decided to lay down some things that have been weighing heavily on my heart, and to trust life to tend to the truth and healing of them. I felt life flowing back into me as I surrendered to the vast expanse of ocean and to the sun climbing over the green mountains. And then I did something I haven't done in awhile...I allowed myself to dream. I asked myself - if I had another life to live, how would I live it? And I decided I'd spend that life living on a sailboat, exploring all around the world, fishing, and trading stories and things I've made with people along the way. Just as I told Joel about this dream and we wondered what the world might look like if everyone were living their childhood passions, a beautiful white sailboat pulled in from around the cliffs and dropped anchor in front of the island on which we were camped. Joel and I started to pack up camp and make plans to ride the ferry back to the mainland, when a couple from New Zealand happened to be walking by. Overhearing us, they asked if we wanted a ride... and pointed to the sailboat we had seen pull in earlier! We not only said yes, but spent the next three days with them on their boat - listening to stories of how they have spent much of the last 25 years living in the sailboat, exploring all over the world - the Antarctic, Patagonia, the Amazon River, volcanic Polynesian islands, all while homeschooling and raising two boys who are now fully grown with families of their own. They're now three years into a seven year trip, with plans to sail up to Norway, Greenland and through the Northwest Passage to Alaska this coming year. At almost 60 years old, their spirits are as young and bright as children. Life speaks the language of synchronicities...and sometimes, but not always...I am awake enough to enter into the conversation.
