Lost 172 lb. since starting CrossFit exactly two years ago at 422 lb. Total weight loss is 235 lb. with my heaviest being 485 lb. Currently weigh 250 lb.

Good nutrition and CrossFit are key elements of this change. But the CrossFit community and coaching is the foundation of what made all of this possible. I’m tremendously blessed of the support I’ve surrounded myself with. This is not easy, but I feel massively better than I have in decades, and continuously healing from morbid obesity.

I’ve had numerous ailments because of obesity. Heart-attack being the most serious which left me with three stents. Sleep apnea, herniated disc, spinal stenosis, ankle and knee pains, heel spurs, wheezing, asthma, shortness of breath and so on. There were moments of being judged for being obese. Moments of having to buy two seats on an airline because I couldn’t comfortably fit in one, and needing a seat belt extension. Moments of shopping for 5/6XL clothing, jeans and shorts size 58/60. Big & Tall clothes are expensive. In fact, living life (if you can call it that) as a morbidly obese person was overall expensive.

On the coping mechanism side, I ate and drank way too much to help mask the pain. The “easy going dude” my friends and family thought they knew, wasn’t happy at all. I was merely finding a way to exist. Let me be clear, no one gets to 500 lb. because they are happy!

Everything has improved in different aspects of my life—from relationships, friendships, employee, brother, etc. I’m much happier and excited about life. Yesterday my cardiologist was amazed at my numbers. Blood pressure is 96/64. Heart rate at 44/46 Beats per min, EKG results were fantastic. Aspirin is the only thing I take daily. Blood work came back this morning, all NORMAL! I’m no longer using my CPAP machine.

Since this journey started, everything has fallen into place. I am in a much better space today as compared to two years ago. Mentally, after living as an obese person for decades, I never want to see almost 500 lb. ever!
