Why should you invest in your health and take pride in building MUSCLE? Here is a clear visual comparison of the cross-section area of the thigh muscles between an “active” person (triathlete) and a “sedentary”person. In picture 1 and 2 you can see that the active individuals have a large amount of muscle in their legs with little to no fat (adipose tissue) accumulated and despite 34 years of aging there’s not much difference in the size of the muscles. However in picture 3, it’s easy to tell that the muscle belly has been deteriorated and infiltrated with fat due to sedentary behaviour and sarcopenia which can have many negative effects such as lack of function which can lead to a poor quality of life.
