Sheila Van Emden used to tag along in the back of Anzac Day marches. This year, she'll be the first. At the age of 91 she has spent more than 30 years battling for recognition for those who she believes haven't quite had their share of the limelight for their wartime service. "I think it is very good that women will now be marching at the front and I think it is about time." Photos: Steven Siewert and @fairfaxarchives.

One by one they have closed all around Sydney. With a shift towards watching movies online – in the era of iTunes and Netflix – more than 200 DVD stores have shut in recent years. But at Mount Druitt, Geoffrey Hooper has kept his VideoEzy store bubbling along 📹 Having started with what he calls a "palace", his store has grown smaller with two moves into new premises. But after 25 years, there is still space for close to 15,000 DVDs, all neatly stacked on racks 📺 Mr Hooper seems amused his shop has been attracting sightseers, including one man from the northern beaches who dragged along his children recently 👀 "I've had a few people bring their kids in to see a video store saying 'this is what we used to do'." 📸: @shooterwol

Do you have what it takes to be a professional wrestler? In the lead up to Pro Wrestling Australia’s largest ever show - which kicks off at The Star tomorrow - Sydney Morning Herald reporter Matt Bungard joined in on a training session and found that while the performance may be “fake”, the work-out is very real. Head to for the video. Photo: @shooterwol

Swedish DJ and producer Tim Bergling, known as Avicii, has died aged 28. One of the most popular and successful artists of all time, he had six top 10 singles in Australia, most notably the 2013 chart-topper Wake Me Up. Will Sparks, an Australian producer and DJ who toured with Avicii said the industry has lost “one of the biggest innovators and producers”. Photo: Amy Sussman

This week’s #ThrowbackThursday is a particularly special one as we mark the 187th birthday of The Sydney Morning Herald 🎉🗞🎂 That’s a lot of stories broken, photos snapped and conversations started! Pictured here are some of the 56 American paperboys arriving at Sydney’s Mascot Airport on August 8, 1958, for a tour of Australia. Follow @fairfaxarchives for more images like this from the vault.

The owner of the Newcastle cafe serving up a gourmet presentation of the “old-fashioned Australian classic”, Vegemite toast, says the store had no intentions of the snack going viral 🍴 The $7 meal was meant to give the simple offering a “bit more presentation”, says owner Emma Reid 🍞 “If someone does come in and they request good old-fashioned Vegemite on toast, then we’re prepared to gourmet it up and get some MasterChef action on the plate. The dish wasn’t meant to be taken too seriously.” 📸: Simon McCarthy

Breaking: Former US first lady Barbara Bush has died, aged 92. As First Lady from 1989 until the start of 1993, she was a popular national figure known for her sometimes blunt talk and self-deprecating wit. Her husband, George HW, was the 41st president. Her son, George W, was the 43rd. She’s pictured here in Canberra with her husband, ahead of their meeting with their ‘old friend’ Bob Hawke. It was one of the rare moments on the Bush tour of Australia when George and Barbara Bush were not surrounded by security guards or guests. Photo taken by Tim Clayton, January 3, 1992.

To give aspiring designers "that little extra something", Australian fashion designer @carlazampatti has created a new $25,000 annual award to give a fashion honours student at UTS the opportunity to further their studies overseas. This year's winner of the Carla Zampatti Foundation Design Award, Sarah Lim, shone among the other finalists for her "wonderful handwriting", Zampatti said. "It’s [Lim's collection] both wearable and creative. She must be passionate about what she does – she understands what it means, which is making women feel wonderful in your product, giving them the opportunity to be glamorous. She has a great sense of style and elegance." 📸: @louisekennerley

The refugee crisis no one is talking about. Fairfax photographer @kate.geraghty travelled to Guatemala and Mexico to capture the flood of terrified youths desperate to escape Central America’s gang violence. Read more in @goodweekendmag today.
