No spoiler photos* Thus concludes one my favourite series of the past few years. I've loved the mix of sci-fi and politics that have been the staple of this series. I can imagine it would be hard to end a series in a way that satisfies all. Often stories can start with a great concept but fizzle out towards the end. I think Charles Soule does a good job in wrapping up this series. I confess I struggled to think how he would do this ending justice. There is less focus on the characters we've come to know and love, instead the story takes a huge jump into the future and then it is a bit of a huge exposition dump.
Even though I did mostly enjoy this issue I do think it felt a little rushed. It also left me wanting more, it left me with so many questions that I wanted answered. But that is not an uncommon theme for series to do. There have been many TV shows, movies and other comics that have deliberately ended ambiguously. The audience is left to make their own conclusions about what may have happened. I guess that allows the series to live on in our minds for days, months or even years after its finished. I want to stress I think this a good ending to this fantastic series.
Thank you Charles Soule and Alberto Alburquerque for the hours of entertainment you have given me. Letter 44 may not be the most recognised series around but i'll always hold it in high regard.

Super Sons #7 by DC Comics. Written by Peter J. Tomasi, art by Jorge Jimenez.

Quick review. This book is so much fun! I love it. The art by Jimenez is outstanding and Tomasi knows just how to capture the moods of the sons of Batman and Superman. This is one of DCs top 5 books at the moment. The innocence of Jonathan Kent juxtaposed against the brooding Damian Wayne is a team up made in comic book heaven. Throw in the Teen Titans and you have a really enjoyable read. Fans of the DC universe will get a kick out of this book. -

Kill the Minotaur #3 by Image Comics. Written by Chris Pasetto & Christian Cantamessa, art by Lukas Ketner.

Did you ever see the movie The Cell? It was a horror movie that really had some epic visuals. This comic reminds me more of that than the mythology it's based on. This is a pretty horrific (in a good way) reinterpretation of the story of the Minotaur. Even as a young child I always viewed the stories of Hercules, Jason and the Golden Fleece and other tales as the first sort of superheroes. They were stories of heroic feats that feature noble characters that are meant to inspire.
I love this version of this tale. It's the story you know but with a super gory twist. By the end of this issue, just when you think you're coming to grips with the story it takes another unexpected twist. The art also compliments the story really well. Lukas Ketner does a great job at making you feel uncomfortable with the gruesome gore and terrifying creatures that lurk in this labyrinth. I can see this series going on to be a cult hit among comic books fans. We're only three issues in so it's not too late to get on board.

Silver Surfer #13 by Marvel Comics. Written by Dan Slott, art by Michael Allred.

Only one more issue of this criminally underrated series. In a world where major comics can be weighed down by continuity and events, Silver Surfer has been a breath of fresh air. There is a continuing story line here but each issue can be enjoyed by itself. It's also a book that embraces its cosmic premise in a really fun way that makes for pleasant reading. There aren't enough books like this.
If I could have the powers of any comic book character it would be Silver Surfer. I'm serious. This is a being that can travel throughout the entire universe in style. Now in the past he has been portrayed as a sympathetic character, the last survivor of his world, herald of Galactus but Dan Slott has taken a different approach. He has turned this book into an almost Dr Who-esc adventure series. Each month we explore a new world with kooky and weird characters that pushes artist Michael Allreds imagination to the max. This is a gem that is well worth your time.

The Might Thor #22 by Marvel comics. Written by Jason Aaron, art by Russell Dauterman & Valerio Schiti

Malekith's war of the realms has claimed many lives and now the War Thor seeks vengeance. The Queen of Cinders is in his sights as he unleashes his wrath upon her. But she is not be trifled with, she can hold her own against this aggressive god of war.
Jason Aaron just keeps this epic saga ticking along nicely. This is probably my favourite Marvel book at the moment. With the Marvel Legacy movement almost upon us I fear the time of Jane Foster as Thor may be drawing to a close. That is a massive shame as I have loved her in this series. It's been fantastic and anyone who says this move was done to pander to politically correct market needs their head checked. This series will go down as one of the best Thor runs ever. It has been such an amazing journey and we're still not done yet. By the end of this issue, Lady Thor and War Thor come face to face. The next issue promises to an epic battle. More of the same please.
