Today marks 5 years since I have accepted my first paid order. There was no @sweetendingsbylulu then, just an eager beaver trying her luck in the industry. And man I charged way too low for this, but I learnt quickly. And in last 5 years, I have grown leaps and bounds. Caking brought out the best and worst in me.
I once baked two cakes a month earlier due to my own oversight, and ended up donating them to the local disabled children's home. Since then, it happened two more times, but hey, more cakes for the home. I've donated cakes for fundraising countless times, both to school and other organisation. Giving back can be so rewarding for the soul.
I've struggled juggling corporate work (till March 2014), family and caking many times. I've learnt to work efficiently and quickly, and to strike a good balance. I am shown everyday how the love and support of my husband and kids, makes me a better cake artist. I am forever grateful for that.
I might not be seen as an ambitious cake artist by my peers. I prefer to keep my head down and work hard to achieve the best version of me. I am getting there. Every step I take, is a step forward. I am after all, a one woman show. No helpers at home. No assistants at caking. I am a wife, mother, daughter-in-law, sister all in one.
I am forever grateful to all my clients, both the easy and tough ones, for every cake I make is a chance to learn and perfect my art. Thank you for that.
I am excited to see how far I'll go. I am ready for the next 5!
