Broward County Public Schools district is dealing with the unimaginable tragedy that unfolded on February 14th at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Our hearts and thoughts are with the families of the 17 victims and with the entire Broward County as we stand in solidarity with the whole community. Miami-Dade County Public Schools will continue to extend our support and any assistance necessary as we all begin to heal from this tragedy.
In addition, the Broward Education Foundation has set up an official page to support victims, families and those affected by this senseless violence. If you would like to make a contribution, please visit https://GoFundMe.com/stonemandouglasfund or http://BrowardEducationFoundation.org.

Today we honor the work of Martin Luther King Jr. and the work he put in towards equality in this nation through the civil rights movement that he led with courage and persistence and one we are still working towards to this day.

Today we had the first Attendance Boundary Committee (ABC) Meeting where Region Superintendents presented our ABC members with the schools that will be the focus of attendance boundary change recommendations.
I’m happy to report that no District 5 schools are part of the targeted schools this year, however, with the planned opening of two new schools in the City of Doral in the 2019-2020 school year, we will be scheduling a series of community meetings in January to discuss what can be expected in next year’s ABC cycle and to address any of your questions or concerns about the ABC process.
Please make sure to keep up with our updates so that you do not miss the dates for these meetings!

It is a time to be thankful, a time to remember and to embrace those who enrich our lives. I wish you all a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving!
