REAL TALK SUNDAY (Why are so many people EXTREMELY depressed?) Although depression existed before social media, social media is a large source of depression. Social media is doing exactly what it was designed to do. It’s designed to constantly make you feel unhappy, ungrateful, divide us and constantly compare yourself to other people. It creates a “My life is better than yours illusion.” Along with this it has the potential to make people feel like a celebrity and for many when they are not getting 1000 likes their expectations and validation are not met.
When we analyze ridiculous expectations, these expectations put extreme pressure and force on yourself and many times others around you. When ridiculous expectations are not met then follows EXTREME depression. “Becoming a millionaire by 30” is a great example. If you want to be a millionaire that is fine and great. Although, this is doable, you will put immense pressure on yourself and could potentially become extremely depressed when this expectation is not met. Ultimately, even being a millionaire doesn’t equate to being invisible from depression.

Validation is an attention seeking drug that many crave on social media. It can make a person feel like a nobody. YOU ARE SOMEBODY with or without social media, with or without validation, with or without comments and emojis. What happens when many do not get the validation they crave for? They become EXTREMELY depressed, they do anything to make themselves validated. Maybe they do something that is completely out of their character or even mask themselves as someone they are not...in the name of VALIDATION.

We have also been tricked into dividing ourselves to the extreme by gender, race and classism. You have men pointing the finger at women, women pointing the finger at men, races are at each other’s throats, if you are not of the same political party of someone else you despise them or even want them dead because they don’t agree with you? Don’t be fooled into hating people because of differences or seeing things from a different lens. No one person is the same as anyone else. This is what makes us unique. Read more...

1. Pick your level

2. Start with Exercise 1 - you are to do 5 sets of as many as you can do. Your max reps or hold. Rest 1 minute in between sets.

3. Move on to Exercise 2 - you are to do 5 sets of as many as you can do. Your max reps or hold. Rest 1 minute in between sets.

4. Move on to Exercise 3 - you are to do 5 sets of as many as you can do. Your max reps or hold. Rest 1 minute in between sets.

Nós fluiremos, abriremos os quadris e isquiotibiais, trabalharemos no equilíbrio dos braços e, claro, ficaremos de cabeça para baixo. Desculpe esta tradução é provavelmente ruim e espero que você entenda o que isso está dizendo. YOU are Unique by no Accident

We live in a current period where humans are more ashamed to be who they truly are; more than ever. (I understand some may disagree.) So much pressure to be this person, be that person, be who mom and dad wants you to be, be what society wants you to be, you shouldn’t wear this, you shouldn’t wear that, you are too skinny, you are too fat, you should look like this, you should be like this person, etc….but hardly ever are people “truly” told to be who they are. You shouldn’t be like anybody, you should be exactly who you are.

There are people going under the knife to prove people wrong about themselves and not waking back up after body altering surgeries. (If this is something you choose to do, do it because you want to, not to prove yourself to anybody) There are those that hide their gray hairs because they don’t want the world the view them as old. (Old is a mindset, rather you are old or not) Many buy the fancy car and 8 bedroom houses (living alone); knowing in their heart it’s not even want they want or resembles who they truly are or what they are about. Do this because you want to, not to prove anything and be unhappy. Don’t let society’s narrative take control. Many times our gifts are never used and most of us live a life where we are never happy. After living life for a while we make it to a certain point and realize the whole time it was lie. (Not all the time or for everyone) Or you may feel you have not been living your truth. Why? Many times because we are living the life we are told we should live and be somebody else. If you know your truth, if you know your purpose, if you know why you are here, if you know who you are; then be exactly that. Life is too short to be miserable being someone else. You can never go wrong being yourself. You are unique by no accident. I dare you to accept your uniqueness. I dare you to embrace being different. I dare you to be who you are. I dare you to use your gifts. I dare you to be happy. I dare you not to live a lie.

WHEN YOU GIVE WITH YOUR HEART DO YOU LOSE ANYTHING?
When you truly give with your heart you don’t lose a thing. For example, if you help somebody on the side of the road whose vehicle has problems you don’t expect anything from them, do you? You are just being a good person. Example 2, (might questionable for some of you) when your family member or close friend needs help moving, you most likely are helping because you love them, right? Example 3, “IF” you give to a family who has hit rock bottom and you help them with food, clothing, encouraging words, do expect something back from them? These are a few samples of giving with your heart. When you give only expecting something in return is when things become stressful for you. When you don’t get something back in return how do you feel? If you are not going to give with your heart then don’t do it. If you are going to give somebody who you know is not going to give you money back that you want it back from, then don’t do it. You can give them an amount that will put you in a position not to lose anything. If they are not happy with what you can give with your heart, then don’t worry about it. It will save you a lot of stress. It makes it easier when you give with nothing expected in return. When I give anybody anything I don’t expect anything in return. Nobody has to give you anything. It might come off as cruel, but it’s the truth. You will be rewarded from your good deeds. Keep pressing forward.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH SPLITS "In the beginning of my journey with splits I questioned the consistency I would have before I even started. My yoga practice was not steady and I did not really believe it would ever happen. The biggest mistake I made was wondering how long it was going to take. When your focus is primarily on how long it will take, it will discourage you from excelling, you will become overwhelmed and it will delay your progress.
What I have learned to do is keep a daily yoga practice, which will form you into enjoying your journey versus going against it. Yoga teaches us to be present, which transcends into our practice and lives. When you are present you learn to accept where you are at this present moment in your life. Do not worry about what you cannot do right now. You may not be able to do a split right now, but one day you will. Time, work ethic, consistency, will, determination and patience to better yourself will open up the doors to success.

The first day I tried the split, I remember warming up with a few flows and prepared with several different stretch poses. I tried it and it did not go well as expected. The pain was unbearable and I was very uncomfortable. I quickly learned that I needed to focus more on the benefits of yoga itself as opposed to focusing on improving on just one pose. I can admit when I would try something and could not do it a few years ago, there were times that I became very eager and compulsive. Through the practice of yoga I strive to improve patience daily.

MY problem was I wanted to skip the process, LIKE MOST. I was willing the put in the work, but it’s like the work was not happening fast enough. I could not accept where I was at.

One day I accepted yoga for its full benefits. When I accepted yoga for its full benefits my life changed. Everything became easier in life, including accepting where I was at with poses. I learned that it was okay to be a beginner, it was okay to start from point A, it was okay to take things one step at a time, and most importantly it was best that I just enjoyed every moment of my journey. EVERYTHING HAPPENS WHEN IT SHOULD. "

"Society says you are nothing without this. I am holding up a $1 bill and took a picture of it. I am not flashing a stack of 20's, 50's or 100 dollar bills looking down on someone that does not have any money. Should I be embarrassed because the world sees me holding a $1 bill? Does this mean I am nothing in this world? Oh I get it, I'm not cool? I can't buy the things this world tells me I need to buy with this? I can't afford the American Dream with this? My question is why can't you have your own dream, why does America have to tell you what your dream should be? What about what you want? If a big house is not your dream why are you seeking it? If working in the corporate world is not your dream why are you seeking it?
My dream is simple; to be happy and enjoy life. All I need is enough money to live a simple life and help others , supported by what I love to do." Have a great week ✌🏾

This is a topic you do not see me talk about a lot. A few people told me when I post these progress pictures that I should tell people that everyone will not be able to achieve some of these advanced poses.
The reason why I do not tell people what they might not do is because I don’t know what anyone is capable of, if they put their mind to it. I don’t have texted book thoughts and have thoughts of my own. I don’t believe everything that is told to me. I was told I did not have the body type to bend the way I do now. Who am I to tell somebody what they might not be able to do? This is why apart of teaching is to teach that we have to accept what is and what is not.
On the flip side of things, I was raised by mother who always told me, “You can do anything, if you put your mind into it.” And this is the way I personally think right now. There are people 300+ pounds that can do handstands. There are people they are told by doctors they will never walk again. There are people 120 pounds that can bench press 300 +pounds. There are 400+ pound people that can do splits and backbends. There are people that are shaped just like the types listed in text books that can do everything listed that supposedly their body type could not do. There are people told every day that they will never read because their brains are not capable of it, but end up reading. There are people that were hooked on drugs and had doubters. People are told they only have 6 months to live and live another 30 years. I personally think it’s about consistency, persistence and patience. Some people let things get in their way and some let nothing stop them.
Even if you never do everything you imagine in your life, no matter what it is….there is nothing wrong with trying, training, improving, taking action to excel or dreaming. We all dream.
Believe in yourself. Have a great start to the new week.
