Alice Neel, "Thanksgiving". Hoping this day is filled with new traditions, gratitude, and fairly distributed dishwashing duties.🍽🍽🍽🍽

The "Why Cheap Art" Manifesto, from Bread and Puppet Theatre, radical performance company and bread bakers since 1963, quote and poster via @bread_on_earth.
Founder Peter Schumann: "Bread and Puppet is based on bread baking and the not-for-sale distribution of bread at moments created by art, and these moments are created in opposition to capitalist culture and habit. Therefore the puppet show is not only a puppet show, but an eating-bread-together event. We ask our hosts not only for performing space, but also for 400 bricks, fire wood, and fire permits to build and use itinerant bread ovens as part of our productions."

Had a blast meeting folks last night, and getting to talk about stuff like beets suspended in Jell-O, potato revolutions, levels of Italian holiday eating, junk food and ironic class appropriation, and how the current political climate has changed how we go out to eat and who we support. 💫thanks for coming, eating, filling out a questionnaire, drawing, donating, and showing so much support. A total dream night.

See you tonight, Portland (that's a 👍)

Menu art from Windows on the World, by famed graphic designer Milton Glaser, from the amazing menu archives collection of the @nypl. And an interior shot of the restaurant with its original Warren Platner design. The restaurant occupied 50,000 sq feet in the North Tower. Seventy-nine employees died in the attacks. A new Windows on the World was slotted to open at One World Trade Center, but was cancelled due to cost concerns and backing.

Some of John Ashberry's collages. And lines from "Grand Galop": "And today is Monday. Today’s lunch is: Spanish omelet, / lettuce and tomato salad, / Jell-O, milk and cookies. Tomorrow’s: sloppy joe on bun, /
Scalloped corn, stewed tomatoes, rice pudding and milk. / The names we have stolen don't remove us: / we have moved on a little ahead of them / and now it is time to wait again." #ripjohn

We won't often be touting "the best of" anything here at Stufft, but this is the true best dinner/story series in town. No recipes plucked out of thin air. This series delivers stories of family and identity via food, and now its time to show support for their upcoming season. Check out our conversation with Tender Table founder @lunch_poems , featured in our first issue. And non-Portland people can still make a donation via PayPal, to tendertable@gmail.com ✨✨
