The realities of serving our communities as first responders can be heavy at times.
Felt it was important to spend a moment here at the National #Firefighter memorial in #Ottawa before we start on a new journey of service as #firefighters. Thinking of the colleagues, family and friends of those who are no longer here and who paid the ultimate sacrifice...... Never to be forgotten. .

May we always remember. Thinking about some friends and all the women and men who are away from home serving over the Christmas and holiday season.

The #FireDepartment has many traditions. The badge of a #Firefighter is traditionally assigned to a single firefighter and then retired unless being passed down to sons and daughters of those who choose to follow in the legacy of #fireservice themselves. I spent 12 years serving as a #policeofficer in #HamOnt #Canada with a badge number of 313. On December 15, 2017 after 18 weeks of initial training I was honoured to learn that Captain Keen offered to pass on his badge and the #Hamilton Fire Department family assigned me the very same badge number. What a way to begin my #firefighting career with my brothers and sisters. #Grateful

Where was your last #trip or planned #adventure? The look I give when it's time to #travel. Finally ready to start digging in again on some #travelling plans. .

I find myself surrounded by some pretty epic people at times. Proud to know these folks and very grateful for those serving our country at home and abroad as we move into #ThanksGiving weekend. Here's a pic of us believing we were the greatest on ship Fire Attack Team ever :)

Doesn't everyone do this? Ok it does tend to raise some eyebrows and maybe render a few laughs. But life is way too short to not to have some #fun. Right? :) .

They say you can't choose your family.... and now apparently some of these characters and friends in a 2017 recruit class either! Wouldn't have it any other way. A photo that evolved from an initial quick unwinding that became a late evening and "unwound" :) Squad 90? How many days to go?

The time has officially come. My gratitude for those who have and who continue to serve in #policing will continue with me as I accept a new challenge to serve the community. The badge has been handed back and it's all unloaded for the final time. I had the honour of spending 12 years as a #policeofficer working alongside many great people and have so many great memories and photos to share when I take a few glimpses back along the way. Thank you to all of the people in the community who were kind to me as I served. Thank you all for allowing me to do my part in home town #HamOnt. Stay safe everyone. .

#communitypolicing. #ThinBlueLine #BlueLine

Before starting a #career in policing I had heard that if you wanted to be successful in life or in a career you had to write down your #goals. So I did. One of the goals at the top of my list included a life long career in the area of public safety and National Defence. I wanted to do something that allowed me to serve the community and I wanted to have a positive impact on people lives. My first call to service came from the policing profession. I have enjoyed serving as a #policeofficer in Hamilton alongside so many of people who work day in and day out in the profession making a difference. A safe community has always been about teamwork. Not just police officers, but the silent professionals behind the scenes that most people won't ever get a chance to see or meet. Like in any profession there are many good days and many bad days. There are a lot of smiles shared in the community and even tears, often from the loss of friends or tragic events we step into along the way. It's not an easy task to respond to the many kinds of troubles that emerge in people's lives as a first responder. But I believe that no matter what, we can always serve with gratitude. It was an absolute honour to have most recently been assigned as your media relations officer over the last few years. I am truly grateful to have been tasked with the job. But now, in order for me pursue the remaining goals that have been patiently waiting on my bucket list… I have to move on from #policing. I am #grateful for the kind messages that continue to come in from colleagues and friends that I've made along the way. I really can't keep up to respond to all of you right away. I am especially grateful for the people who were there for me when I felt like I had hit rock bottom a few times along the way. It meant a lot to me then and it still does now. Today was officially my last day assisting in the media relation's office before taking some vacation time away. On August 13 I will have resigned from my policing duties. Thanks for allowing me to do my part and sharing a laugh at my puns. Stay awesome. Support your #firstresponders as they work to support you. Be safe. Stay tuned ;) #Canada #HamOnt
