It’s DAY 10 of the massive #12daysofrlyrunning challenge! Let’s start the year off with new #drills, #exercises, and #workouts courtesy some of the most badass women in #trackandfield! My drill for you looks easy but is deceptively challenging: you’re going to RUN BACKWARDS 🏃🏻♀️🏃🏾♀️🏃🏼♀️
Here’s why: by #running in a straight, forward line and turning only left on the track, we use the same muscles in the same way, leading to overuse injuries. Challenge your body to reverse the motion, wake up muscles that fall asleep during your run, and blow your own mind by doing a motion that is so natural to you BACKWARDS.
This is a COOLDOWN drill, so when you finish your run today, find a spot that is flat and where you won’t run into anything, preferably 100m long. Start easy, as it will feel weird to run backwards, but try to really reach back with your stride and don’t forget to use your arms! Work up to 6 backwards strides (again, not fast, but paying attention to working your muscles in a new way!).
