Last week, Stranger Things actor David Harbour travelled to Antarctica to fulfil his dream of dancing with the penguins. Now he’s working with Greenpeace to create the worlds largest Antarctic Ocean Sanctuary (1.8 MILLION SQUARE KM) to protect the little creatures themselves. The petition has so far garnered a million signatures and David Harbour wants YOU to help get it to 1.8M: 1 signature for every square kilometre. GO AND ADD YOUR NAME TO THE PROPOSAL and show your support for this cause, let’s get millions and millions of signatures!

Recently, #WorldWhaleDay passed, and it’s hard not to commemorate these amazing creatures even if I’m a tad late. This is the Blue Whale, the largest known creature on earth today. Their sheer size compared to humans is a reminder of how small we really are. I’ve said that time and time again, but we really are so small in the grand scheme of things, even on our own planet. If you would like to learn more about whales please follow the link in my bio, not only to learn about their behaviour, but the threats they currently face. You can also head to savethewhales.org to learn more and do things such as sign petitions, get whale saving tips, report stranded marine life sightings and be heard. There are tons of resources out there. Maybe not 140 tons (the weight of a Blue Whale) but a lot.

The Interior Department announced Friday that the sale of leases on 77.3 million acres off the Southeast coast for oil and gas exploration will occur on March 21.
The sale, which Deputy Interior Secretary David Bernhardt said is the largest in U.S. history, will consist of leases off the coasts of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. It includes all currently unleased areas in federal waters in the Gulf of Mexico. “A real energy strategy would be one that pursues renewables full speed ahead. Their so-called energy strategy is really a scheme for corrupt politicians to enrich themselves and their cronies,” said Anne Rolfes, director of the Louisiana Bucket Brigade, a New Orleans-based nonprofit that is heavily involved in environmental issues. “Oil spills and accidents are an everyday occurrence in the Gulf, and we’re still at risk of a major catastrophe like the 2010 BP drilling disaster. We need stronger safety requirements, not weaker, and an end to all new offshore leasing in the Gulf,” said Raleigh Hoke, campaign director of the Gulf Restoration Network.

The Trump Administration released its fiscal 2019 budget proposal on February 12, revealing plans to deeply cut funding for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). If adopted, the budget would cut the EPA‘s budget by 23 percent, or more than $2.5 billion, and eliminate nearly all funding for climate change research. The Administration describes a return to the true mission of the EPA by reducing “unnecessary reporting burdens on the regulated community” and ending programs that “create unnecessary redundancies or those that have served their purpose and accomplished their mission.” Specific targets include programs such as water improvement funding for U.S.-Mexico border communities, state funding for radon-detecting initiatives, and efforts to restore the health of large bodies of water, such as Puget Sound, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Great Lakes. — Inhabitat
According to the Trump administration, restoring healthy water is an unnecessary burden. This is an administration that does not serve the environment and therefore does not serve the people of the U.S.A. who rely on clean air and water.

Blue whales are the largest known creature on earth, seen here next to a barely noticeable dolphin. Humans are not the biggest, not the strongest and not the fastest creatures. Be humble. We need to realise we are not invincible, we are not always in control and this planet is not only ours.

Recently it was #WorldWetlandsDay. I’m sure you’ve heard the term but what exactly is a wetland? Wetlands are areas where water is the primary factor controlling the environment and associated plant and animal life / areas where the land is permanently or temporarily covered by water. Wetlands actually perform many valuable functions. Wetlands act like the kidneys of the earth, cleaning the water that flows into them. They trap sediment and soils, filter out nutrients and remove contaminants; can reduce flooding and protect coastal land from storm surge; are important for maintaining water tables; they also return nitrogen to the atmosphere. As you can see wetlands are important ecosystems that play a vital role for our planet and it’s crucial we protect them.

NEWS: Chilean President Michelle Bachelet and Kristine McDivitt Tompkins, President of Tompkins Conservation, joined to create five new national parks in Chile and increase the size of three others with an amazing ten million acre expansion of protected areas in Chilean Patagonia.
This public partnership started with Kris and Doug Tompkins's private commitment to embrace the preservation of wilderness and wildlife in Patagonia twenty years ago. They confirm what Margaret Mead once said: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

Mother keeps watch 👀
In every species a mother is always protecting her baby, even Mother Earth does everything she can to protect us but for her to do that we need to do the same in return.

Incredible artwork by @kennaaloha!
Single Use Plastic is one of the biggest killers of marine life today with sea creatures attempting to eat our straws and plastic bags, mistaking them for food or getting entangled in them. Start trying to be more thoughtful of how much you are using. The average lifespan of a disposable plastic item is about 30 minutes for some types even less. Choose alternatives or cut out the unnecessary completely, recycle if you find you can’t avoid it.

20 MILLION TREES have now been planted using Ecosia, a search engine that uses ad profits to plant forests across the globe. Help them plant more than ever by switching from your current search engine to Ecosia in 2018. You can download Ecosia from the App Store or go to ecosia.org to make your searches; all profits from ad revenue will go towards planting trees in countries like Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Indonesia and more.

At the moment there is a movement, to create the worlds largest ever marine sanctuary in the Antarctic Ocean. It was started by Greenpeace and has garnered 497,000+ signatures. Not only has it gained the support of hundreds of thousands of people but even the UK Government is interested in pushing this ahead. Now that we have interest from politicians, governments and organisations; all we need is the everyday people who care about our oceans and want to show it! So please go and JOIN the movement by clicking the link in my bio and ADDING YOUR NAME. The more people the better. If we get lots of signatures maybe the UK government will be more willing and maybe other countries will want to join. 2018 could be the beginning of the largest area of protected ocean ever and it’s all down to us to get as much support and signatures as possible! SO SIGN IN SHARE (LINK IN BIO). You can sign other petitions for marine protection while you’re there.

Today was #PenguinAwarenessDay.
In 1920 there were 1 million pairs of African penguins. Now there are just 26,000. A change in the distribution and quantity of fish, caused by overfishing and climate change, have devastated their numbers. Today they are on the brink of extinction — Lewis Pugh | Please use this day to spread AWARENESS of their plight.
