1) Basic Workshop for new and potential cat owners on 18 July at 7:30pm and

2) Intermediate Workshop for all current cat owners on 25 July at 7:30pm

WHY IS MY DOG BARKING ?
·
We are often asked how to curb unnecessary barking in dogs.
·
Dogs bark in a variety of situations: in excitement, in fear, to warn, in frustration, to guard, or it may have learned that barking results in something that it wants, e.g attention. The key to addressing unnecessary barking is to find out what is causing the dog to bark and then removing the cause or causes of that barking. The aim is not to stop all barking for good , but to get the barking down to a level that you can live with.
·
For more information on identifying the different kinds of barking and how to address them, please click here: http://www.spca.org.sg/petcare_details.asp?id=977.
·
This information was put together by Dr. Kang Nee, a certified professional dog trainer from cheerfuldogs.com who works with us to help the dogs at our shelter.

DON’T SHOWER ME WITH WATER. SHOWER ME WITH LOVE!
·
We are often asked whether a hamster can be bathed using water.
·
Hamsters have a layer of essential oils on their fur to keep themselves healthy. By giving it a bath using water, the layer of essential oils will be stripped off and the hamster may catch a cold. If necessary, owners may use a warm damp towel to spot clean the hamster, and keep it in a warm area to dry naturally.
·
It is interesting to note that as hamsters are clean creatures which love to groom themselves, they will enjoy having a sand bath every now and then.

JOIN US FOR A PAW PARTY AT CORONATION PARK
·
Are you ready to paw-ty it up with some furry friends from SPCA?
Join us at our fundraising Paw Party and adoption drive this Saturday (23 June) where we have plenty of fun activities lined up for you and your family to enjoy!
·
There will be a special appearance by two of our furry friends from SPCA – Google and Criss Cross who are both available for adoption! Google is a miracle hit-and-run survivor who was left by the roadside after being hit by a car whereas Criss Cross was found in a factory, injured and bleeding. We managed to rescue both dogs who recovered well under our care, and have since been waiting for their forever homes.
Besides the meet-and-greet, do bring your pet(s) along to enjoy free basic health checks (slots subject to availability) and basic grooming for a donation of $10. All proceeds from this event will go to SPCA.
·
This event is organised to support us in our vision to increase our clinic’s capability and capacity to provide subsidised and quality healthcare for all rescued and community animals. Please feel free to approach our staff members or volunteers to make a donation to this initiative, or sign up for GIRO donations (you will receive an attractive goody bag with a minimum sign-up donation of $10). ·
Special thanks to Lim Tai See and Farrer Holland Neighbourhood Community for working together with us for this event. We (and our animals) hope to see you all there!

A SCRATCHING POST IS A MUST
·
For cats, scratching to keep their claws in shape is as necessary as eating and breathing. Their claws are used daily for multiple purposes such as climbing, pouncing, and balancing. Cats are clean creatures, and self-grooming is part of their daily routine. Hence, they scratch objects to keep their claws in order. ·
Also, providing a scratching post will prevent your cats from damaging your furniture. If they are still scratching a specific part of the furniture, owners may temporarily apply double-sided tape where your cats usually scratch. This will discourage your cats from scratching the furniture and causing further damage.
