We are so excited to finally announce the details of our 200hour Yoga Teacher Training, kicking off in Jan 2019!
We are incredibly honoured to be teaming up with the highly qualified and experienced crew at @yogakoh_ to bring you a world class training and truly transformational life experience.
The training combines the spiritual practice and ancient wisdom of the East with the modern science and physical practice of the West; offering you the opportunity to dive deep into this thing we call yoga and all of it’s many layers - philosophy, anatomy & physiology, history, ethics, Meditation, teaching methodology and so much more.
We focus on the Vinyasa format of sequencing while drawing from the rich teachings of traditional Hatha and Ashtanga lineages.
The course is designed for passionate practitioners who are ready to teach as well as those who are simply looking to expand on and grow their personal practice. Whatever your intention or calling, the course will take you on a life changing journey of self discovery.
We start with a week long immersion in Byron Bay, followed by 8 weekends in Sydney. Spots are limited. Email the studio now for more information, dates, costs and to express your interest! info@sonayoga.com ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

Rise and✨SHINE✨(literally!) Struggle to get up early in the morning? We have an epic team of teachers on the weekday 6am spots at Sona, dedicated to helping you feel amazing and be the best version of yourself for the rest of the day!
Here’s some of our favourite reasons why nothing beats an early morning yoga fix.
>> Most of us wake up feeling stiff; overnight, our muscles rest and while they’re not moving, layers of connective tissue and bodily fluid - fondly known as ‘fuzz’ - builds up between them. That urge to stretch we get upon waking is essentially an act of releasing that fuzzy build up. If we don’t move and stretch however, this layer continues to thicken and build up, causing stiffness, chronically ‘tight’ muscles and pain. Warming the body from the inside, stretching and moving mindfully in the morning irons out your kinks and gives you an incredible feel good boost for the day. You’ll feel refreshed, inspired and energised💥 >> If you can manage to squeeze in a practice in the morning, you're also more likely to get it done that day. The later you push it, the more conflicts that come up, derailing your best intentions. >> We all know what it’s like to sleep past our alarms and then leap out of bed in panic. Our levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) are already high in the mornings in order to give us the boost we need to wake up. If this level of cortisol is quickly increased with added pressure and rushing, we’ve set ourselves up for a stressful day. Yoga in the morning sets the tone. >> The feeling of self empowerment and achievement that comes from being disciplined in your routine brings increased mental strength and clarity into other areas of your life as well! >> Practising yoga early in the morning will kick start your digestive, immune & endocrine systems, helping nutrients move through the body, causing it to metabolise carbs and fats more quickly and balancing your hormones.

So there we have it! Practising first thing in the morning truly is the bees knees 🐝🦄🐝

I am grounded
My spirit is grounded deep in the earth
I am calm, strong, centred and peaceful
I am able to let go of fear and trust that I am eternally safe
I am worthy of all things beautiful

Oceane begins the journey of the chakras today @ 12.15pm @sona_yoga

The third of Patanjali's Niyamas, traditionally translated as ‘austerity’ or ‘discipline’. The word Tapas is derived from the root Sanskrit verb ‘tap’ which means ‘to burn’, and evokes a sense of ‘fiery discipline’ or passion. In this sense, Tapas can mean cultivating a sense of self-discipline, passion and courage in order to burn away ‘impurities’ physically, mentally and emotionally, and paving the way to our true greatness.

Tapas doesn’t have to mean being solemn and serious though, this fieriness is what gets our heart pumping and heightens our desire for personal growth.

First of all, ‘discipline’ doesn’t strictly mean pushing ourselves harder in a physical sense. Sometimes just actually making the time to get on the mat and meditate, or practise for 10 minutes every day is difficult enough! For some, Tapas will mean making time to be still and observing the mind, and for others it’ll mean working on strength and practising that arm balance we’ve been putting off.

Tapas is an aspect of the inner wisdom that encourages us to practise even when we don’t feel like it, even though we know how good it makes us feel! It’s that fiery passion that makes us get up and do our practice for the love of it, and by committing to this, the impurities are ‘burned’ away.
Making the decision to go to bed a little earlier so you can wake up early to practise is Tapas; not drinking too much or eating unhealthy foods because you want to feel good in your practice is Tapas; and the way you feel after an intense yoga class, a blissful Savasana and deep meditation? That’s Tapas too - ‘burning’ away the negative thought patterns and habits we often fall in to.

The discipline we learn on the mat is a fantastic lesson to take off the mat and in to every day life. Having the courage NOT to listen to the voices in our head that tell us we’re ‘not strong enough’ or ‘not good enough’ to attempt a more demanding pose or go for that new job opportunity is also an element of Tapas that ‘burns’ away those ‘impure’ thoughts, and leads to more self trust and inner strength.

Find your fire every morning Monday-Friday 6am classes @sona_yoga 🔥🔥🔥

The season that teaches us that change can be beautiful. 📷 @tailored_by_jax ready to take the leap 💦

‘Today, my commute led me to a new, desk-less job. Doing something I love. In stretchy pants. 🧘🏻‍♀️✨
A(nother) volcano of change has erupted - guiding me to follow the little voice inside that’s been lovingly whispering to me for at least 5 years. 🌋🤭
We don’t need a new year, week or day to change our perspective, habits or direction. Every breath offers itself up to us as an opportunity to reset and realign to our highest self. 💨↪️
Here’s to us, choosing time over money. Intuition over obligation. Hope over fear.’💕 .
Love these words by the beautiful @andreapavela @dre_does_yoga , the newest addition to our incredible Sona family. You’ll catch Andrea front and centre on Wednesday mornings at 6am. Simply the best hump day pick up you could possibly ask for 😃🔥🤸🏼‍♀️
Do you have a little voice whispering to you about a potential change of direction, a desk-less job...? (that voice used to get very very loud for me every time I rolled out of Savasana!). Well yogis,💥STAY TUNED!💥 for a very exciting announcement. We are busy planning our first 200hr YOGA TEACHER TRAINING, with the incredible team at @yogakoh_ coming to you in early 2019!!!
