Originally started in Perth, Australia as a local government initiative, Plastic Free July has grown in to a global movement.
While I consider myself ‘good’ when it comes to substituting single use plastics with a more sustainable alternative in my personal life I wanted to use this month to attack the use of plastics in my business. Let’s face it, tubes of paint come in plastic, I use zip lock bags to protect my fabrics (although they are reused countless times then discarded appropriately), my paint brush handles are sometimes made mid plastic...and even pre made tassels come wrapped singly ( hence me using porcelain beads, handmade pom-poms and shells as ‘tassels’) As my business grows it’s bittersweet as I worry about the impact my products have on the environment. Taking part in plastic free July will help me take stock of my plastic use and how to eliminate it as my business grows even if that means doing away with certain suppliers.
I will be showing life behind the scenes via insta stories over the next month as my business (and personal life) get a good plastic clean up!
