๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’œ Some good news! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’œ Southwark Council Labour Group voted to remove the immigration officer embedded in Southwark Council, following our July subvertising campaign highlighting this issue.
Southwark Labour hold the majority in Southwark Council so this is a great win, but we are not complacent - we know that there are still immigration officers embedded in:

Barking and Dagenham

There is no legal basis for councils to embed Home Office staff in their services, and there is an urgent need for all of us to draw attention to central and local governmentsโ€™ focus on reaching targets at the expense of their duty of care, including that of survivors of domestic abuse. We have already seen the way in which the hostile environment has grown at an exponential rate, behind closed doors without any noise, and we believe that embedding immigration officers into Local Authorities is just the beginning. And it must be stopped.

We encourage everyone to demand that their councils remove these officers, and that councils care for their constituents instead of colluding with the Home Office. Borders have no place in our local services.
While we are pleased with the outcome of last night's vote we also repeat our demands that Southwark Council: ๐Ÿ—ฃ Commit to stop colluding with the Home Office to facilitate the detention and administrative removal of survivors. ๐Ÿ—ฃ Reallocate funds that are currently being spent on embedded immigration officers towards funding and increasing sexual and domestic violence services and refuges for ALL survivors. ๐Ÿ—ฃ Immediately signpost survivors to qualified and trusted immigration advisers, as well as provide them with information about domestic and sexual violence services that are run without Home Office involvement for NRPF survivors seeking assistance from their Local Authority.
If you are a survivor and are worried about accessing support, you can call any of the below for free and confidential advice:

These poems were written by Latin American women as part of a workshop with the Latin American Womenโ€™s Rights Service (LAWRS)
These are their experiences of immigration enforcement as migrant women and survivors of domestic violence.
The workshop where they were written is part of the Step Up Migrant Women campaign, which is fighting to separate reporting domestic violence and services from immigration controls.
These poems clearly highlight the dangers of our โ€œhostile environmentโ€. Migrant women are forced to โ€œchooseโ€ between border violence and domestic violence, as the act of reporting domestic violence exposes them to threats by the police and Home Office because of their immigration status. Reporting domestic violence to police has resulted in threats of detention and deportation for migrant women. ยฟComo se puede ir, si no hay donde ir? How can she leave, if thereโ€™s nowhere to go?
Sisters Uncut stands with our sisters at LAWRS in demanding for the removal of immigration enforcement from all of our services to ensure seeking support is kept separate from immigration enforcement.
We demand the abolishment of No Recourse to Public Funds.
We demand an end to austerity and brutal cuts to specialist domestic violence services because NO SISTER IS ILLEGAL.

TODAY we ad hacked tube and bus stop advertisements to protest embedded immigration officers in our local services!!! Councils including Southwark, Bexley, Greenwich, and Lewisham are using the stateโ€™s austerity limited funds to put immigration officers into their services. This leaves survivors of sexual and domestic violence with insecure immigration status in a lose-lose situation. Forced to make the choice between violent abuse in the home, or violent abuse from the Home Office.

Today we hit up Southwark and Lewisham to demand that local councils stop working with the home office to detain and remove survivors they should be supporting.

We are and always will be firmly against detention, deportation and the unfair discrimination migrants face in this country every day. Sisters Uncut were at Yarls Wood today to show solidarity with our sisters and siblings inside the centre, who show tremendous courage and power in their protests demanding freedom for all. Most recently, the women in Yarls Wood held hunger and labour strikes lasting a month calling for an end to infinite detention, charter flights and more. โœŠ๐ŸผโœŠ๐ŸฝโœŠ๐ŸพโœŠ๐Ÿฟ Thank you to everyone who came out today! We will continue to demonstrate until all detention centres are SHUT DOWN. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’š FREE THEM NOW! ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’š

Austerity has decimated domestic violence services in Scotland and @sistersuncutedinburgh want you to know that the Scottish Domestic Abuse Bill is a cover up for cuts to services that puts survivors at greater risk #powertosurvivors #nowheretogo

SISTERS UNCUT JUST STORMED THE BAFTAS RED CARPET โœŠ๐ŸปโœŠ๐Ÿพ Locked up! Locked out! Locked in! Theresa May's upcoming domestic violence and abuse bill is a dangerous distraction. Survivors will be locked up by a harmful criminal justice system, locked out of refuges or locked into violent situations.

Survivors are already being arrested when they report abuse, and giving the police more power will increase this.

The police and prisons are no solution to domestic violence. Give power back to survivors: fund refuges and specialist domestic violence services.

content note: trans day of remembrance, transphobia, transmisogyny & antiblackness โ€ข
โ™ฅ๏ธโœจToday is transgender day of remembrance and we are spending this day thinking of our trans siblings who are resting in power.
Throughout time trans and gender non conforming people have been erased, but our history shows we have always been here throughout queer revolution, and black trans women especially have led the way. [link for โ€œthroughout timeโ€:] โœจ
We spend this day also recognising transphobic and transmisogynistic violence effects black trans feminine ppl and black trans women the most. โœจโ™ฅ๏ธ
Trans and gender non conforming people have the highest incidence of DV: 4 out of 5 trans people are estimated to have experienced domestic violence.
Yet the services which trans people can access in the UK are constantly on the verge of disappearing.
Galop is the UKโ€™s only LGBTQ+ specific DV service, & they have a trans specific service on Tuesday afternoons. [link:] โœจ
Stonewall Housing has just 41 places for young LGBT people in supported housing, in four London boroughs. [link:] โœจ
In a society where 73% of trans people have experienced at least one form of emotionally abusive behaviour from a partner or ex partner, these services are a crucial lifeline for trans people.
Each service needs to be trans inclusive, and we need services specifically for trans and gender non conforming peopleโ€ผ๏ธ ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’œIn Sisters Uncut we're thinking further about how to centre our trans sisters and siblings in our work. On Facebook we have a page "North London Sisters Learn", and will be giving a skillshare around how cuts to services effect trans and gender non conforming ppl.
Please come to events like this or share stories and support the trans and gnc people in your daily life.

On this day, we will take time to remember our trans and gender non conforming siblings. We will also take the time to heal, celebrate and nurture our lives and existences. Love and solidarity ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’š(image descriptions in comments)
