🏃🏼‍♀️4 HIP STRETCHES FOR RUNNERS🏃🏼‍♀️

Anyone else suffer from tight hips? If you are a runner or sit frequently throughout the day, you probably do too! For me (Kel) when my hips get overly tight, my lower back will start to constantly ache and everything from glutes to hammys feel strain. Laur and I always recommend stretching for 5 minutes after each workout (so many of you agree this makes a way bigger difference than you anticipated!), and taking 20-30 minutes per week to focus on extended stretching (think yin yoga poses for 2-3 min each). If you’re noticing your hips are excessively tight, try this stretching routine 2-3 times a week:
🧘‍♀️10 minute Hip Stretch Routine- complete 2 rounds of the following:
1️⃣Hip Flexor Stretch- 30 seconds each side **remember to tuck your hips under
2️⃣Pigeon stretch- 1 minute each side **the goal is to keep your shin as close to parallel as possible
3️⃣Butterfly- 1 minute **option to extend feet further away from you to work more into outer hips
4️⃣Seated Figure 4 stretch- 30 seconds each side **can be performed lying on your back if you experience knee pain

Today has been the perfect #getoutsidesaturday. Woke up at 630, made myself an oat milk latte, had banana pancakes with Shane then took a 10am Pilates class and went on a long walk with our parents and two family dogs. I know this probably sounds super boring, but fun fact, I.am.boring.😬
.
Although social media may lead you to believe we do little more than workout and give each other hugs, truth is we are almost always ON. We love what we do, but today I decided to disconnect (except this post while Shane is napping) and just chillll.
.
Have to say, it feels pretty dang good! The only thing I could think to add to this day would be laying by the pool for a few minutes, but it’s not very sunny so having the excuse to relax inside is fine by me.
.
What does a perfect, relaxing day at home look like for you!? (Not that this will ever happen again, but I may need some ideas if it does 😆)

Treadmill treadmill treadmill! Ugh, as former D1 track athletes, the thought of getting on a treadmill was just plain gross...now we honestly couldn’t imagine our lives without these workouts. Why?? Because they’re:
•quick and NOT boring (30m max)
•challenging and make us feel like athletes again
•give us the results we’re after - major post workout endorphins and a long lean physique
•accessible - you can find a treadmill in any gym
•perfect for pairing with strength training - alternate cardio and lifting days or double up for major burn yet still finish your workout in 1hr or less
•great for distance runners looking to drop race times
.
If you haven’t tried one of our workouts, well truthfully this one might kind of suck bc of the inclines (regulars, does this remind you of your favorite “rollers” workout) 😂, but, it’ll be a killer workout nonetheless and it’s ONLY 20 minutes!! We have plenty of others on our page so if you’d prefer to stay on flat ground for your first try then grab one of those instead!

Why does it seem so hard to focus on progress over perfection?
.
By nature I (Lauren) find myself constantly striving for perfection-which is laughable because my life is about the furthest thing from that, yet it always leaves me a little disappointed with myself for the things I “didn’t get done” or the time that I “didn’t fully maximize” or for indulging “more than I needed to.” Then pile on mom guilt and the feelings of not spending enough quality time with my family while seemingly still not getting enough done at work...some days I feel on top of the world and like I can handle it all, while others I feel like a hopeless failure 🙈
.
I started reading a book the other day called Perfectly Yourself and this quote jumped out at me “Progress animates us. It brings us to life. When we sense that we are making progress, we tend to be filled with passion, energy, enthusiasm, purpose, and a real and sustainable joy [...] Progress creates enduring happiness.” - Matthew Kelly

I had to laugh (and cringe a little) because I KNOW this and this is exactly what we preach to our community and throughout our challenges, yet there are so many days that I myself am not living up to it. So, my goal this week (and moving forward) is to focus on PROGRESS (and pause to celebrate those wins!), not perfection. What’s yours!?

What shoes for what activities and why!?

You guys are always asking what shoes we run in, what our favorites are and why, sooo we are going to begin trying a handful of new shoes and will give you our honest reviews on them... We’re going to kick this off by telling you about our current favorite shoe, the @asics Dynaflyte, then we’ll list a few of the other shoes we plan to test out over the next few weeks and we want to hear from YOU which you’re most interested in learning about!

Why we are currently loving the Asics Dynaflyte:
.
1. Versatile- we run sprints AND distance in these! (so rare to find a shoe that suits both)
.
2. Cushioning/protection- impact absorption is huge for any shoe we're putting higher mileage on and injury prevention is key
.
3. Responsive- this is huge for us because we love having proprioception and an energetic ride aka being able to feel the ground and get bounce back each step
.
4. Lightweight- coming in at 8oz, they are super lightweight, especially for a high mileage shoe
.
5. Comfortable- they've been comfortable and reliable through our 5ks, 10ks, half marathon and Ragnar, causing zero aches and pains!
.
WHO WE RECOMMEND THIS SHOE FOR: neutral runners looking for a fast shoe that can handle high mileage!
.
All of that said, we would be remiss to say that the Dynaflyte 3 is our favorite when really we actually loved the 2 even better! (doesn’t it always seem that as soon as you fall in love with a shoe they alter the next version of it and it’s just not quiteee the same?! But still, we do love and wear the Dynaflyte 3…
.

#tuesdaytoning ABS. We use the term “abs” because it’s an easy term we all understand and the idea of having “six-pack abs” is pretty enticing ☺️. But, what we really should be saying is “6-minute core strengthening workout!” There are tons of ways to train a strong core, but this is a very quick and easy format to add to the end of any workout (we personally love adding “6-minute abs” onto our cardio days)
.
3 reasons why having a strong core is so important:
1. Become a better runner! Less fatigue, better endurance and reduced risk of injury
2. Posture…need I say more
3. Prevent or improve back pain
.
Today’s circuit is 4 exercises, 30 seconds each for a total of 6 minutes (no rest, but rest between sets if you need to in order to maintain proper form)
· Plank dips R
· Plank dips L
· Cross mountain climbers
· Forearm plank jacks
.
We challenge you to complete this circuit at least TWICE this week. Give us a 🙋‍♀️ if you’re up for the challenge this week!

Hellooo #getoutsidesaturday 💧, you know it’s a good workout when we both look like we wet our pants 😩... well technically it was an inside Saturday, but we finally got to try out a @trimfitnessstudio and @x_x_x_climb combo class! You guys know we love combining cardio and strength, so this was right up our alley. We started with 20 min of cardio intervals on the versa climber (neither of us had tried so we were super hesitant). It took a bit of coordination but the workout was killer and the lights/music/upbeat instructor combo made it fly by. Then already being fatigued, we went straight into another 20 minutes of lagree Pilates (which we love). As if Pilates wasn’t hard enough already, try adding cardio first 😅 It’s the best when we can actually take studio classes together since Laur and I live 30 min away from one another!
