Two weeks ago I met this incredibly magnetic and inspiring soul @nathan_saggu⠀⠀⠀⠀
Nathan was diagnosed with a medical condition at 8 years old and was in a wheelchair by the age of 10. Doctors said he wouldn't live past 20. Today, at 26 years old, with a big smile on his face, a heart full of courage and strength to face all his challenges Nathan is inspiring every single person he meets and shares his story with.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It was so humbling and inspiring hearing Nathan's story of how he has been through depression, had two heart attacks, nearly lost his life and came out of all of that stronger than ever to now live happy on a daily basis. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One might wonder how someone who has been through all that could still be happy. When I asked him, his reply simply was: 'one day I woke up and I just decided to be happy'. Those words stuck with me.
And as we know how life works, exactly a week after I met Nathan, I fractured both of my heels and ended up in a wheelchair. Now, my situation isn't ANYWHERE close to what Nathan has been through, however, it gave me a very small glimpse into what challenges someone in a wheelchair might face on a daily basis. Though it's only been a week being restricted to my bed and a wheelchair, there's been a lot of ups and downs thinking about the setbacks this injury is going to cause to my business, fitness goals and other things I had planned.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Everytime I felt down though, I remembered Nathan's smiling face and his words 'I just choose to be happy'. I remind myself that this is just a small bump in the grand scheme of things. And if Nathan is able to push through his challenges, mine is nothing and I can too. It was awesome to find out there are so many things Nathan and I have in common. We both love rap music and meeting new people! The best one, Nathan told me he loves fashion too and can't keep track of all the clothes he has. That sounds like me!
Nathan, my friend, thank you so much for taking time out to meet me and inspire me with your story. Not just for the next few months through this injury, but I will take the lessons you've taught me to help me deal with any challenges in life 🙏
