Today my constant companion started Pre-K (which in Arkansas means they attend school for the same hours as the big kids). My grocery shopping buddy, the little feet that follow me around all day, the little mouth that talks incessantly, and the little fingers that help and try and make messes. Yes, I cried. She surprised me by crying a little bit first which I didn't expect from my spirited, independent go-getter. Her big 2nd grade sister was so attentive all morning. She prayed for her to have a good day. She provided comfort, and information and jokes to ease the transition. And as we drove away she said, "I just want Sylvie to be happy. I just want her to have a great day." My babies are growing. It's welcome and I'm thankful. But growing always hurts for a minute.
