#1: Women's Safe Space
To prevent incidents of sexual violence, in 2011 Shambhala’s Harm Reduction crew developed the Women’s Safe space. This space aims to protect and empower our guests.
The WSS has 4-6 beds and is open 24 hrs/day throughout the festival. Support workers collaborate with security and medical teams when needed and have the ability to deal with issues regarding domestic violence, relationship mediation, bereavement support, post trauma support and follow up, sexual health and safety.
We welcome all self-identified women in this space; whether you’re lost and can’t find your friends or camp, need to remove yourself from a situation that feels unsafe, have had a fight with a partner or campmates, or feel overwhelmed and simply need a quiet, safe space to chill and an ear to listen—the Women’s Safe Space is here for you.
