“Diversity is being invited to the party, inclusion is being asked to dance. Diversity is about quantity; inclusion is about quality.” - Verna Myers ---
Ever been told to go back to a country that you've never been to? It's not a new story nor is it exclusively my own. One time I received this remark from another young woman, and that was the moment I knew I had to stop being colour blind, gender blind and decide I wasn't standing for nothing. That interaction actually happened here in Vancouver, one of Canada's most acclaimed, multicultural cities. Our ethnicity and sex continues to affect our lens and experience in this world. If we don't start to see or understand this, we are not fully acknowledging real, shared oppressive experiences of others elsewhere (that are certainly more severe than here). This is #whyimarch in solidarity with all people who believe: we can not only mean better, we can also do better. For equality, inclusion and standing united against oppression. Most of all, the importance of using our voice for those who can't be heard. To Washington and the world: Hear us. Diversity is not inclusion. We, not me. .
