On 30th September 1999 an accident took place in a Japanese power plant in Tokaimura. 3 workers were exposed to high doses of radiation.
Hiroshi Ouchi was one of these workers. He was transferred to the University of Tokyo Emergency Room, 3 days later doctors were surprised at how well he looked for being exposed to such high doses or radiation, showing nothing more than a swollen red hand.
However, his condition deteriorated quickly as the radioactivity broke down the chromosomes in his cells. Skin became blackened & fell off his body, his internal organs failed until he was alive soley due to a life support machine.
He was kept in this state for 83 days before eventually being allowed to die . . Did they keep him alive in a bid to try & help him or was it to gain as much knowledge of radiation poisoning as possible?! #HiroshiOuchi #RadiationPosioning #RadiationSickness #SlowDeath #ProlongedDeath #Tokaimura #Macabre #Death

Yet another British #SerialKiller & #cannibal, “Hannibal the Cannibal” was first imprisoned for the 1973 murder of a man who had picked him up for sex. He committed an additional three #murders while in prison, by #garroting & #stabbing three inmates & reportedly eating the brains of one of his victims. He is isolated from the general prison in #WakefieldPrison and a #HannibalLecter-like Perspex cell, where his every move can be observed from a safe distance. He gets one hour of exercise a day in the company of some six guards.

Known as “The Honeymoon Dive,” the diver in the background of this photo is #TinaWatson, lying on the ocean floor minutes after being #murdered by her husband.

As #newlyweds, Gabe and Tina went on a scuba diving excursion in Australia. Just before this photograph was taken (by an unsuspecting friend of the diver posing in the foreground), Gabe was seen giving her what looked to be a bear hug. In reality, he was likely disabling her air regulator and holding her down until she lost consciousness. When he finally resurfaced for help, he swam leisurely back to the boat and calmly notified an instructor that his wife was experiencing difficulty. The diver swimming towards Tina in this photo is the instructor struggling to rescue her, but it was already too late.

Back in America, Gabe Watson was acquitted of murder charges based on lack of evidence – and cashed in big due to Tina’s substantial life insurance policy, and the dangerous environment in which she perished.

When English police caught up with him, he was cooking a victim’s brain in a frying pan. He committed three #murders between 1994 & 2004. In 1994, he was sent to a secure prison hospital for the murder of a 20-year old woman, but worked his way through the system with encouraging reports from social workers. In 2004, he walked out of a secure unit & killed Brian Cherry. It was his brain Bryan was cooking when police arrived. The #ParanoidSchizophrenic & #Cannibal was sentenced to life for two cases of #manslaughter, having claimed diminished responsibility at this trial at the Old Bailey.

This horrific picture shows a young girl’s leg that has shrivelled & turned completely black after being bitten by a #snake. The snake’s venom caused severe #necrosis .
The 13-year-old girl, who is unidentified, was first treated by remedies from the indigenous culture she was from, according to a photograph posted on Instagram by the username ‘juventudmedica’.
A month later she was eventually brought to Carcaras, Venezuela, for medical treatment.
One doctor, who has seen the photograph, told MailOnline the girl will need her leg amputated but is still likely to die from the snake venom.
Dr Arun Ghosh, a private GP in Liverpool, said: ‘Snake venom is very complicated and depends on the species of snake.
‘But the picture shows clearly severe tissue necrosis that will need #amputation, though she still may die from this due to the nature of the poison.
‘The whole lower leg is black, it’s spreading up. Looking at the rest of her body she’s showing signs of muscle wastage from the poison. Her other leg is thin. It’s likely she will still die.’
He added that the necrosis has led to a condition called rhabdomyolysis, in which muscle tissue will begin to die throughout the body.
Rhabdomyolysis can result in damage to the kidneys, which coupled with low blood pressure, can lead to kidney failure and even death if left untreated, he said.
Being treated with local remedies probably meant she was given antibiotics, but not treatment to adequately control poisoning from the snake venom, which contains agents that paralyse the nerves and cause the blood to clot.

Dr Ghosh said: ‘This girl has had classic rural treatment which is often only able to treat local infection secondary to the bite (at best say equal to antibiotics).
‘But she is unlikely to have received anti-venom treatment (which entails giving treatment to stop blood clotting) to keep her blood flowing through her body.’
The photograph’s caption said the girl also suffered a broken elbow from the incident with the snake.

In some cultures #amputation is a form of #mourning. This was especially true of the #DaniTribe from #Papua, Indonesia. The members of this tribe cut off their fingers as a way of displaying their grief at funeral ceremonies. Along with amputation, they also smeared their faces with ashes and clay, as an expression of sorrow.

It isn’t very surprising to learn that women were mostly subjected to this #gruesome ritual. The religious beliefs of the tribe prompted this sort of #ritual. If the #deceased person was considered to be powerful, it was believed that their #spirits would contain equal #power too. In order to #appease and drive away these spirits, several #shocking #practices were followed. Girls who were related to the #dead had the upper parts of their fingers cut off. Before being cut, the fingers would be tied with a string for over 30 minutes. After the #amputation, the finger tips were allowed to dry, before they were burned and the ashes buried in a special area.
Another #explanation offered for the #FingerCutting #ritual is that the physical pain symbolized the #suffering and pain due to the loss of a loved one. In such a case, the finger would be cut by a close family member, like the mother, father or a sibling. In a similar #bizarre ritual, the tip of the little finger of babies are #bitten off by their mothers. This perhaps originated from a time when most newborns died, from several causes. The hope was that by biting off the finger tip, the baby would be different from the others, and would perhaps, live longer.

Jane is the skull of a 14-year-old girl was unearthed at the site of the early #Virginia #colony of #Jamestown in 2012.
#Marks on the bone showed clear evidence that after death, the girl had been #butchered and eaten. After the flesh had been peeled back, the skull was broken open with blows from an axe. Criss-crossing lines were found on the bones, traditional cuts for animal #butchery of the time. This indicates Jane’s flesh, tongue and brains were removed – normal 17th century cuisine.

This discovery confirmed years of speculation that the #settlers of Jamestown had turned to cannibalism during the #period known as the #StarvingTime. During the winter of 1609-1610, a delayed supply ship and a small #harvest due to drought lead to the death of all but 61 of the colony’s 500 inhabitants. Jamestown was decimated by #starvation and #disease.

#Archeologist William Kelso, head of the Jamestown Recovery Project, believes Jane is a lone case.

#Ectodactyly, or #LobsterClawSyndrome, is the name given to the condition in which hands or feet have a claw-like deformation. Lord Lokhraed, guitarist and singer of French Black Metal band Nocturnal Depression, has ectrodactyly on his fretting hand, and Lee Hee-ah, a Korean pianist, has only two fingers on each hand.

#TheHandOfGlory
A hand of glory is the #pickled hand of a man who has been hanged. Usually the left hand was used. If the man was #hanged for #murder, then the hand with which he committed the crime would be used.

Fat from the hanged man would be used to craft a candle, which would be placed in the severed hand. Sometimes the wick would be made from the hair of the same man.

A hand of glory was believed to possess magical powers in European #occult traditions. It was believed a Hand of Glory would render people motionless, open locked doors or give light only to the person holding it.

#TheWhitbyMuseum has the only known remaining Hand of Glory on display.

The Tuskegee Study of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male was a clinical study, conducted between 1932 & 1972 in Tuskegee, Alabama, in which 399 (plus 201 control group without syphilis) poor — & mostly illiterate — African American sharecroppers were denied treatment for Syphilis.

This study became notorious because it was conducted without due care to its subjects, & led to major changes in how patients are protected in clinical studies. Individuals enrolled in the Tuskegee Syphilis Study did not give informed consent & were not informed of their diagnosis, instead they were told they had “bad blood” & could receive free medical treatment, rides to the clinic, meals & burial insurance in case of death in return for participating.
In 1932, when the study started, standard treatments for syphilis were toxic, dangerous, & of questionable effectiveness. Part of the original goal of the study was to determine if patients were better off not being treated with these toxic remedies. For many participants, treatment was intentionally denied. Many patients were lied to & given placebo treatments—in order to observe the fatal progression of the disease.
By the end of the study, only 74 of the test subjects were still alive. Twenty-eight of the men had died directly of syphilis, 100 were dead of related complications, 40 of their wives had been infected, & 19 of their children had been born with congenital syphilis.

One former #NorthKorean woman prisoner tells how 50 healthy women prisoners were selected & given poisoned cabbage leaves, which all the women had to eat despite cries of distress from those who had already eaten.
All 50 were dead after 20 minutes of vomiting blood & anal bleeding. Refusing to eat would have meant reprisals against them & their families.
Kwon Hyok, a former prison Head of Security at Camp 22, described laboratories equipped respectively for poison gas, #suffocation gas & blood experiments, in which 3 or 4 people, normally a family, are the experimental subjects. After undergoing medical checks, the chambers are sealed & #poison is injected through a tube, while “scientists” observe from above through glass. Kwon Hyok claims to have watched one family of 2 parents, a son and a daughter die from suffocating gas, with the parents trying to save the children using mouth-to-mouth resuscitation for as long as they had the strength.
