I feel like I’ve told my story of mental illness a million times. Sometimes to people who truly listened, and sometimes to people who didn’t/couldn’t/wouldn’t ever understand.
While I’m not going to launch into my anxiety journey again today on #bellletstalk, I encourage everyone who doesn’t experience mental illness or even relate to it at all to be a bit more patient today. Listen and try to empathize. Really hear your friends and family that are sharing their experiences. Because it’s really hard to tell anyone how things are negatively affecting your life, especially at the very start, and especially when you feel like you’re losing your mind or that you’re broken.
And if you’re searching for a way to respond, try saying something like, “I don’t exactly know how I can help, but I’m here for you, and I Love and support you.”
Today is not just about telling our stories about mental illness. It’s also about telling those we Love that we always care, even when it’s not #bellletstalkday.
