Brand Coach & Strategist  I show entrepreneurs how to mine golden nuggets of opportunity in their businesses & create magnetic brands in the process (formally verysarie)

http://www.getinspiredtothrive.com/

One of the best books I read in 2017. #thepowerofjoy .
"The more I live in, and experience, states of flow, the more I realize that it's not our role or responsibility to solve our problems. When we connect with our inner beings through the feeling of joy, solutions to problems tend to present themselves with little effort... Your inner being is always guiding you. It knows exactly where you want to go even before you consciously become aware of it. It knows the best possible path to your desire."
.
When I look back at synchronicities and triumphs in my life, I realize they always happen when I let go; when I release my grip on the "having to figure it all out."
.
When I trust in the process, surrender to the excitement (vs fear) of NOT knowing how it's all going to work out but still believe 1000% it IS going to work out... ahhhh. That's where the fun begins.
.
It's a process though. I am equally balanced in strategy and intuition. They're a good match and lead to some magical ideas, but if let the strategy side tip the scales, my intuition becomes a bit of an apparition. Confused. And I have a hard time trusting it.
.
That's when I know it's time to return to joy. However big or small that might be. And by small, it can be really small. Because that small thing will lead to a slightly bigger thing, and then an even bigger thing, and so on and so on.
.
I like to put a song on and dance like Elaine at the Christmas party. Or pour a cup of my favorite tea and sit and savor it- REALLY savor it- for a few moments. Or stop for a minute to pet and snuggle with my pups. It doesn't have to be much- you get the idea. Minute by minute, day by day, I'm learning to be joyful. And my intuition/inner being is thanking me. I bet yours will too.

Risk → Reward
.
Some of the most fun I had in 2017 was ATVing in Gunnison Park, CO. I witnessed truly breathtaking vistas- but only because I was willing to climb into (and in some cases drive) this buggy straight up the side of a mountain. There were several "holy sh*t" moments when I dared to look to the side and realize we were about 8 inches from a long drop down. But I trusted that if my baby brother was willing to take his 3 youngsters along for the ride, everything would work out A-Ok. And it did. And I was glad. And awed over and over again by mama nature.
.
Risk → Reward

Practice does not make perfect; Practice eliminates the NEED to be perfect every time.
.
Failure is cemented in our culture as something that should be avoided at all costs. The price of this though is that many great and beautiful gifts for the world would die before they’ve even had the chance to be incubated.
.
We’ve brainwashed ourselves into thinking “get it right the first time, or it’s not a worthy idea.”
.
So how do we get over this? Practice. Use practice as a sort of reverse brainwashing.
.
Practice being somebody you’re not- somebody you want or hope to be. Practice your art. Practice flexing atrophied mind muscles and eventually your thoughts, feelings and emotions and results will follow.
.
Let me know in the comments what you’re going to commit to practicing today. (Can’t wait to hear- and cheer you on!!)

Do you believe in signs?
.
I know I do. And I used to think signs had to be these earth-shattering, sweeping miraculous things. Then I met @7om_alchemy and learned that our lives are literally busting at the seams with signs. It's actually quite hilarious.
.
Numbers are a big one for me. Especially the number 13- because I was born on the luckiest, unlucky day of all: Friday the 13th.
.
13s pop up all over for me: the spot I randomly pull into in the parking garage. The number on the side of a cab that shows up for me. Or the food table flag at the coffee shop like this.
.
These signs aren't telling me to drastically change direction in life (although they could if that's appropriate in the moment) They're more like little nods from the universe, a "you got this kid, keep on keepin' on. No matter what, I've got your back." It's these little nudges that keep us reaching for our dreams and desires when they might seem a little silly to everyone else.
.
Double tap if you have nudges like this too. Little whispers from the universe to root you on when you'd otherwise be feeling like "to hell with this.."

This photo is a flashback to our last time in Kauai, and my first ever helicopter ride and tour around the island.
.
I felt so buoyant being in the air, and I think I grinned ear to ear the entire time. My cheeks hurt by the time we landed.
.
The surf was insanely high that day and looking back at this photo, I can still recall the awe I had for how powerful and majestic mother nature is. Nothing beats her. Never ever.
.
I think it's a metaphor for living life- finding the balance between buoyancy and power. Lift off and grounding. Floating and steering.

Doing my best. Thanks for the reminder. #enjoythislife

Awhile back I "accidentally" bought way too much charcuterie for a party we hosted. So this was my breakfast, lunch, and dinner for about 3 or 4 days straight. And I wasn't mad at it. Or guilty. Not for one single second. And this was a pretty big deal.
.
Cause, you see, I was raised catholic, and the whole catholic guilt thing...yeah, it's no joke. To this day, I can muster up a pretty big guilt cloud over just about anything. Most days, it just feels like my natural state of being, so it's hard to even recognize when I'm being ruled by it. And you know what, I'm sick of it.
.
So little by little, inch by inch, I'm learning to let the guilt slide off my back. I feel like we all could use a guilt cleanse. I think I'd feel WAY better after one of those vs a juice cleanse.
.
I'm not sure exactly how that would work/what it would look like, but if I figure it out, I'll be sure to share.

It took me decades to start the process of loving myself- which, for many women, means loving the way we look. Starting at a young age, we pick up signals that our physical appearance will never be enough.

I look back at photos from my youth and think "look how beautiful and remarkable that girl was" and I wish I could have felt that way at the time. You'd think the benefit of this hindsight would make embracing loving yourself where you're at right now a little bit easier, but for some reason, it's not always as simple as all that. (I'm sure you can relate.)

The journey to seeing more of the beauty in myself vs focusing on all the flaws began in earnest when the universe tossed a slew of amazing women onto my path. All around me were these gorgeous, brilliant, wickedly smart and hilarious women. Yet, all they could do was pick themselves apart. No amount of encouragement from me helped either. These conversations broke my heart every time they came up.

I thought- If only they could see themselves the way I saw them; as beautiful, uniquely talented, incandescent beings.

Then I realized it was a mirror. The universe was holding it up to me day after day. No amount of flattery was ever going to make one of my girlfriends recognize their beauty. They had to do it for themselves- just as I had/have to do it for myself.

In this little way, as I work at loving myself more and more every day, I hope to be a different kind of mirror. The kind that says it's ok to own our strengths. To wink at our reflection when we're feeling particularly sassy. To recognize that by loving ourselves, we love and change the whole world.

Time for a little #realtalk

I can spend LONG stretches of time alone without batting an eye- probably why working from home was such an easy transition for me so many years ago.

I refer to myself as an extroverted introvert, and I really am a social creature at heart and love communing with friends, despite my need for alone time. But lately, I've been feeling like such a hermit.

I desperately need to break my routines and get out more, but I'm finding it hard to break the momentum of staying home.

I've never been much of a coffee shop working kind of gal- but maybe that needs to change?? I'm also considering a coworking spot nearby- It's hard to justify the cost, but it could be that my sanity needs a steady dose of human interaction.

Ever experienced a rut like this yourself? I'd love to know how you got your work-from-home mojo back!

Creating happy moments. (Not hard to do in Diagon Alley, BTW.)

Lately, I've been seeking joy like it's my job. Which, shouldn’t it be all of our jobs? If we're not here to cultivate and spread joy and love, then what are we here for exactly?

I'll be honest, for most of my life, I've leaned towards the melancholy side of things. I'm extremely introspective, empathetic and curious and have spent a good amount of time trying to understand pain, longing, and loss. Mostly because I've experienced all of those things myself and it's become easy for me to recognize them in others. Essentially, I've earned my Ph.D. in the dark arts by now (haha)

My focus has changed recently though because I've learned that suffering doesn't need to be dissected. It's a roadmap pointing us towards our highest aspirations- if only we can pause long enough to take a breath, look around and enjoy this precious moment, and the next, and the next...

We're not meant to stay in the melancholy. We're meant to seek and stay in the joy. The hard bits we encounter though show us our strength and make the happy, magical moments SO much more so if we choose to stay present in them.

For me, on this particular day, it looked like drinking dark beer & wearing red lipstick while pretending Hogsmead Pub is actually a place IRL. (Which it sort of is now. So there. Magic does exist.)

I'd love to hear your stories of finding joy in the comments below!

I've been collecting little gems from Mama Earth for years. (Most of my life, actually.) She's sprinkled all over my house. It brings me comfort. Reminds me of faraway places. Connects me to things bigger than myself. Each little seed pod, twig, and shell holds a story.
.
Sometimes, glancing at a stone on my mantel takes me right back to the day I put it in my pocket. Its quiet presence tells more of a story in my mind than a photograph ever could have captured.
.
We all have these little reminders- whether they come from nature or someplace else. What are the relics you keep to tell your stories? (One of mine NOT from nature is a tiny, broken, pink plastic egg that unscrews to reveal an even tinier rosary inside. But that's another story for another day.)

Here's to all the feasts, families, friends, love, gratitude (and unbuttoned pants) today!

May there be leftovers for days. May you're weird uncle Tony offend no one this year. May your table be filled with as much love as food. And most importantly, may you laugh so hard that sparkling punch shoots out your nose.

Happy Thanksgiving all!

I'm continually amazed by the tenacity, smarts, and generosity of the ladies that have come into my life; From entrepreneurs (that span fitness, health/wellness, art, music, shopkeepers, restauranteurs and everything in between) to producers & editors blazing trails in the entertainment industry, to intrapreneurs who are tearing it up in agencies and fortune 500 companies. I am truly blessed to be able to witness and celebrate so much feminine magic.

I was so intrigued when this book came out. The title really says it all. I love that I can pull it out, open to any page and find a good dose of inspiration. Every story is full of inspiration, courage, trust, and determination. •
I see myself and the women I spoke of above in these stories, and it brings me endless joy for the many nuanced ways the female collective is leaving their imprint on the world. •
Tag a friend to let them know you're inspired by and appreciate all the things they do- big and small. •

Hi Friends!

I’ve been on Instagram for a long time, but it’s been awhile since I’ve posted. That’s why I thought today would be a great day for a (re) introduction! There’s a reason why I’ve been quiet- I’ve been working on something new that will be combining my 15+ years experience in the ad & design agency world along with my 8 years of freelance and digital world experience.
_______________________________________

People I work with are generally shocked to find out I’m an introvert because I’m fairly chatty and have zero fear speaking to a crowd. My friends and family know how much I relish my time alone though!
_______________________________________

I’m passionate about building personal brands because EVERYONE (whether we know it or not) has one and, when cultivated correctly- alongside discovering our “secret sauce” (our unique combination of experiences, skills and talents) - amazing opportunities manifest. (there’s a hint on the ‘something new’ I’ve been working on!) I’m originally from the Midwest (Iowa and Minneapolis) but I’ve been living in Los Angeles for 7 years and can’t imagine ever going back to winter. I’ll never say no to a long weekend snowboarding in the mountains though!
_______________________________________

I’d love to call myself a yogi, but if I’m being honest, I don’t hit the mat as much as I’d like (something I’m working on changing!) Most days, you can find me hanging out with our 2 rescue pups Rita & Georgia since I work from home- They're pretty cute coworkers!

I’m really looking forward to getting to know you more too, so leave a comment and introduce yourself- it’d make my day!!

An inordinately delicious Kale #salad:
Massaged kale (lemon, olive oil, and then literally massage it with your hands until the leaves break down a bit)
Top with: Celery, apple, and toasted pine nuts.
I dressed with @primalkitchenfoods honey mustard, but any honey mustard or Dijon type of dressing will do the trick. Enjoy! .

I forgot my sunscreen on a recent snowboarding adventure and ended up with a horrible sunburn on the bottom half of my face. You know, that "sporty" goggle tan lines look. (Google it- it's not cute. Or sporty. IMHO) The silver lining was whipping up this DIY skin saving mask. Seriously- it's part of my regular routine now.
It's yogurt, colloidal oatmeal and Manuka honey and you can head to the blog for more specifics + the post mask routine that got my face glowing again (in a non tomato- red way.) .

Picked up this Hudson Bay point blanket at the flea a few months ago (20 bucks- holla!) and I've been shuffling it around the house. Think I finally found a permanent spot for it in the guest bedroom. (For now 😂) .

It's a little dreary in LA today, so I'm pretending I'm out in a field of flowers doing my best "blogger jumping" impersonation. (Reality- I'm in a bar drinking craft beer like any sensible person does on a dreary day.) .
