Japanese cuisine has four principle cooking methods: agemono (frying, including tempura and tonkatsu), mushimono (steaming, such as chawan mushi), nimono (or boiling, for sukiyaki and shabu shabu) and yakimono (grilled, such as yakitori or teriyaki)

Japanese cuisine should be enjoyed with all five of the senses: you should taste every ingredient in the dish; be enticed by the smell; the dish should be textural; and it should look like artistry on the plate
