Her 〰️ 承
When I was the director of the Asian Student Association in MOSAIC, one thing that stuck with me to this day was a question one of my team members asked: Are we really friends if you have never once asked me about my culture? This question made me question a lot of my friendships. I grew up in a primarily Caucasian neighborhood, barely had any Asian friends outside of church and family and attended a college that is predominantly white. Out of all the friends I’ve made, I believe only 10%, or even less, ever asked to know more about me and my culture. I realize that most of the friends I made growing up and graduated with were only classmates and acquaintances. It’s really disappointing when I really consider most of these people as friends and people I would love to continue to grow old with. No matter what, I’m still thankful to have them in my life. You have to learn in order to be a better person and grow as a leader. Despite the disappointment, I’m fairly content with my life and where I am. Perhaps this could be the most beautiful moment in my life.
