Ollie Gee reimagines childhood toys using both found and handmade objects to devise a dreamlike world. Created as a commentary and statement of displeasure on the current political climate, Gee’s installation ‘Without a Red Carpet’ is a resistance to American life under republicans. Prints of the work are available now!

Project Moonbase is a futuristic (or what was deemed futuristic in the 1950’s) space flick in which Colonel Briteis, played by Donna Martell, and her two male counterparts must travel to outer space to orbit the moon and survey landing sights for future missions. Evil intentions are revealed and the struggle that ensues results in an emergency crash landing on the moon, an untimely death, and an unexpected marriage.
Stop by the Magnolia Theatre before August 21st and check out the sci-fi wonderland that is Cathey Miller’s ‘She Came From Outer Space.’ We guarantee this show will have you over the moon! 🌛

Ken Craft’s characteristic style combines original cartoon narrative with breathtaking scenic painting and drawing. The works bounce between two worlds - the painted landscape and the drawn comic - coming together to create a distinctive form of storytelling. In Ain’t Like I Thought, Craft’s two main characters Flirty LaMorte and Chief deal with love, anxiety, and philosophical meanderings through their adventures and misadventures in both the natural world and the art world.

“The juxtaposition of the past with the present, both visual and conceptual, these are the contrasts and intersections with which I work. This concept manifests itself from very basic design contrasts to more complex current topics.” - Nancy Ferro 2018

From all of us at Ro2 Art, wishing you and yours the best for the holiday!

Join us for an enlightening talk by artist Nancy Ferro about the significance of using reclaimed architecture to illustrate history while breathing new life into these objects. Her artist talk will explain the glorification of the past through repurposed mixed media pieces shown in her solo exhibition, " The Past Informs". Ferro's talk will take place at our main gallery in Cedars, Saturday July 7th from 2-4 PM. Also speaking that afternoon will be artist Ken Craft. Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to hear from both Dallas based artists.

FYI: Our main gallery in cedars and downtown Pop-up will both be closed on Wednesday July 4th. We will reopen on Thursday July 5th at noon.

Allow us to introduce you to the newest character in Ken Craft’s comic-style paintings: a vivacious, young African-American woman named Reby. True to Craft’s signature style, the character’s features are merely outlined, but the ocean washes a beautiful tint over Reby's skin and the detail of her hair is reminiscent of a Jackson Pollock drip painting. Learn more about Ken’s work during his art talk on July 7, 2-4pm!

Nancy Ferro uses basic design and found objects to address complex, intersections of contrast. In ‘Button Up, Buttercup (we have a long way to go)’ Ferro uses muted yellow and white tones to contrast the minimal use of red within the texture. The splash of red in the work is symbolic of "traditional" Dallas architecture- tearing old buildings down and replacing them with new structures.  In response to viewing this pattern as wasteful and lacking respect for history and artistry, Ferro gives the forgotten materials of Dallas new life and purpose. .

Ken Craft’s, ‘Starlight Observers’, displays his comic book-style approach to storytelling. He uses these characters to personify the journey to find meaning and understanding of one’s own life. The characters in his work, along with the human race, endure the suffering of wanting to belong and connect with one another. In nature we are exposed, with our vulnerability and insecurities unmasked. However, Ken uses his art to show we all experience this nakedness, and we all laugh and live on together ‘with all the grace we may.’

Strolling between exhibitions in the Cedars, the vigilant viewer spots a third exhibition under the stairs. Ollie Gee has created an unforgettable and unapologetic take on the current political climate in America. She states, “In the midst of a nation run by a xenophobic, sexist, homophobic, racist, narcissistic, hateful, old, McDonald’s-eating troll who wishes he were a dictator, silence is unacceptable. We must resist what has becoming shockingly unsurprising.” Influenced by the cult classic Beetlejuice, Ollie explores current affairs in her brazen exhibition: Without a Red Carpet.

On view at Ro2 Art until July 14, 2018.
