The most amazing, magical, and awe-inspiring part of my trip was visiting Sun Studio, the birthplace of rock and roll. Had Sam Phillips never opened his studio and let anyone record, music would not be what it is today.
The studio is famous for The Million Dollar Quartet which consisted of Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis. It was a happenstance meeting when the four of them showed up at the studio on the same day.
The microphone pictured is one of the last pieces of original equipment the studio has. The black x on the floor is where every person who recorded at the studio stood for Sam and used that microphone.
I stood where history was made.
The studio is still in use today and is open at night for anyone and any band to come in and make a record.
