riley  avid reader. aspiring author. very gay. 📖: the radical element 📚: 36/45

Whoops I disappeared again. I seem to have trouble sticking a posting schedule. I'll try to take a chunk of photos at a time and see if that helps! •

I just wanted to show off the French editions of the Six of Crows books my grandmother got me!! I like these covers more than the American ones, but I think the way the characters are depicted is super inaccurate. I could hardly recognize them!

I also desperately need to catch up on tags, and I think I'll let ones from like April go.
I was tagged by @marcopoloreads to do the #decksofcardsandbooks tag!

#geekyglowreadscontemporary Day 1 - June TBR

Omg I'm finally done with finals... I'm officially halfway done with high school! I'm happy because I'll have a lot more time for reading and I'll be able to be more active on bookstagram. •

I likely won't get to all of these books this month, but that's kind of the point. In the past, TBR's haven't really worked for me, and I think that's because they're too restricting. So, this time, I figured I would have a wide variety of books to read, so I would have different options and while still having some guidance, not being too constrained. •

May Wrap-up! •
I didn't read that many books this month, but I'm still proud of myself because I've read more than I had the past couple months, and I've managed to fit reading into my busy schedule. •

(Not pictured) Americanah ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is the best book I've had to read for school; I loved it so much! Unfortunately I have to write an essay on it for my final tomorrow :/

Love, Hate, & Other Filters

Oh my god I've been gone for so long...... I'm sorry school has been super hectic!! My finals finish next week so I'll actually have time to take pictures and read more. •

Appreciation photo for the cover of The Poet X. It's just so gorgeous! I'm so excited to read this book. •

Have any of you read this book? What did you think?

#marchbookstagram18 | Day 12 - Diverse Authors
.
These are some of my all-time favorite books, all with diverse authors! Benjamin Alire Sáenz is gay and Mexican, Angie Thomas is black, Alison Bechdel is a lesbian, and Corinne Duyvis is autistic (and maybe bi I can't remember)
.
Also, what's the best time of the day to post? I'm curious as to how that would affect how many likes I got
.
.
Tag time! I was tagged by @marcothebookworm to do the #aestheticallypleasing book tag! 📚
☄Best font cover: Six of Crows
☄Simple font cover: They Both Die at the End
☄Best bookish map: idk I don't read a lot of books with maps ☄Best chapter heading: Starry River of the Sky by Grace Lin

#marchbookstagram18 | Day 9 - Recently Purchased
.
These are actually part of a chunk of 7 books I bought recently, but these are the ones I'm most excited to read!
.
.
I finished Murder on the Orient Express a couple days ago. I actually really enjoyed it. I had been slogging through the first 40 or so pages but after that, I couldn't put it down! I finished the remaining 200+ pages that night. The thing that's the funniest to me is that I put the book down and was complaining to my mom about how boring it was and when I picked it up again I found that literally two paragraphs later was when the man got murdered. .
.
.
Have you read any of these books? What did you think? Which one should I start with?

#marchbookstagram18 | Day 8 - Forest Setting
.
I feel like The Cruel Prince has a forest setting but I'm not 100% sure since I haven't read it... I feel like someone's mentioned that though. And idk if In The Woods is specifically /forest/ because to me that have more whimsical, pleasant connotations but it does, as the title suggest, feature a large gathering of trees so I'm showing it. Also, I started Ash ages ago and never finished it and I'm fairly certain there's a forest setting but not 100% sure whoops. .
.
.
Tag time! I was tagged by @whatireadfor to do the #mybookishaddictions tag. Also I always tag the same people but I don't know a lot of people yet. .
📚Current read: Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie
📚First read of 2018: A Little Book of Language by David Crystal
📚A book you would take on vacation: this question kind of confuses me because there's not a specific type of book I'd take on vacation; I just take whatever I'm currently reading
📚Good book to screen adaptation: Idk actually! Maybe Harry Potter?
📚Book on your TBR: Illuminae

#marchbookstagram18 | Day 6 - Gifted From a Friend
.
.
This book has been on my #TBR forever! My friend snagged me a copy when they were at a bargain book sale which I'm super happy about. This book is so tiny too it's almost the size of my hand.
.
.
Sorry I haven't been posting! I've been super burnt out and haven't really had the energy to do much. I'm feeling better now though. .
.
I'm still not super far into Murder on the Orient Express. It's been hard for me to get into because of the lack of energy I mentioned before, and at the moment it's not super interesting. I'm fairly certain it will pick up soon. I would read some of It's Not Like It's a Secret but I'm reading it with my friend and I'm waiting for her to catch up. .
.
Have you read Fried Green Tomatoes? If so, what did you think? Also, if you've read Murder on the Orient Express, does it start to pick up more after a few chapters?

Day 2 - Books + Snack
.
.
Murder on the Orient Express is a little bit slow-going right now but I'm hopeful it'll pick it up soon! Also disclaimer I don't usually eat Lays this was just the only snack food I could find.....
.
.
.
Tag time! I was tagged by @e_ to do #thattbrbooktag ! Thanks!

I changed which March challenge I was going to do at the last minute, so I ended up already posting the first challenge yesterday. So today I'm just posting about the book I'm most excited to pick up and also doing a tag! (Also, I'm seeing how I like this background and who knows? This might be an actual theme...)
.
.
@marcothebookworm tagged me in the #aroundtheworldbooktag ! Thank you!
.
🌎Olympia/Hercules (book you struggled to complete): I actually can't really think of a book! If I end up starting to slog through I usually just DNF it
🌍Venezia/Water (book you don't remember very well or is due for a reread): I should reread The Secret Series. I remember enjoying them a lot as a kid, but I barely remember what happened 🌏Prague/Clocktower (book you read on a timeline): The Hate U Give
🌎Pamplona/Bullfighting (book you can't find in shops/online): Knit One Girl Two
🌍Amsterdam/Bikes (book with no cars): The Search for Delicious
🌏Madagascar/Penguins (book with a cold setting): The Martian (ik this is kind of a cop-out)
🌎Japan/Manga (book with pictures): Fun Home

Overview of all the books I read this month! (Also, I know I have tags to do but this post is going to be long enough already so I'll get to them later!!)
.
.
(Not pictured) One of Us Is Lying
🌟🌟🌟.5/5
This book wasn't my favorite, but it was still enjoyable enough to get me out of my reading slump. I didn't really care about the characters, but the plot was interesting enough to keep me hooked. I actually sort of predicted the ending towards the beginning of the book but then I was like no that's kind of stupid they wouldn't do that but sure enough, they did! (Although I will say the actual execution wasn't stupid). .
.
.
The Penderwicks
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5
I was having a hard time so I reread one of my favorite childhood books! It was just as good as I remembered it, which was a relief, given that that hasn't always been the case. .
.
.
Delusions of Gender
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5
This book was so interesting! I'm not typically one for nonfiction but I was super into it the entire time. .
.
.
The Joy Luck Club
🌟🌟🌟🌟/5
This book was so eye-opening. I had never read anything like this before. I highly recommend it if you want to learn about Chinese culture and experiences from an actual Chinese person in novel form. .
.
.
The Hate U Give
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5
This book was incredible! Easily one of my favorites of all-time. Another eye-opening and original book. Highly recommend!
.
.
In the Company of Women
🌟🌟🌟🌟/5
This book was a fun collection of interviews of women who owned their own companies. My favorite part about reading it was when I was like damn that lady looks gay and then she talks about her wife. .
.
.
Even if six books isn't a lot for most people, I'm still really proud of myself! I haven't read that much since middle school because of depression so I'm so happy I'm coming out of that slump 😊😊😊

My March TBR! Hoping to at least get through all of these next month, maybe another book depending on how fast I'm reading!
.
.
The books:
* The Essential Dykes to Watch Out For
* Murder on the Orient Express
* Everything Leads to You
* Nice Jewish Girls: A Lesbian Anthology
* The Abyss Surrounds Us
.
.
Some of these books have been on my TBR for ages, while others I picked up pretty recently. I'm sticking true to my brand with only one of the books not being gay. .
.
.
What books are on your March TBR's? Are any of these books you've read or would like to read?
