Last night I had the distinct honor of receiving the Peggy Campolo Carrier Pigeon Award. The Carrier Pigeon award is given to straight allies who give love, support and a voice to the misunderstood children of God.” I cannot begin convey how much of an honor this is for me, and how full it has made my heart. For me, this award represents the beautiful friendships I have been so blessed to be a part of. I can’t believe I get to meet and share this life with so many courageous, compassionate, and caring people. I want to thank the community of Open Door Community Church, of Sherwood, Arkansas for their warmth and generosity over the years. Also, so much love to Pastor Randy Eddy-McCain and his husband Gary, for trusting this misfit and welcoming him into their home and church. Finally, thanks to Peggy Campolo, a dear friend, who has quietly and beautifully defined for me what it means to be a loving human being. I had no idea I receiving this award. Like so may blessings in my life this was a complete surprise, and it reminds me that the road may get rough and people sometimes seem so very mean, but there is always somebody plotting goodness, laughter and joy.
