Steny Hoyer  Rep. Steny Hoyer represents the 5th Congressional District of Maryland and is the Democratic Whip in the US House of Representatives.

On a National Day of Action to protect the #ACA, I joined constituents to discuss what's at stake if the Affordable Care Act is repealed without a plan to replace it. Together, we will win this fight because it's the right thing to do for the American people.

The great Marylander Frederick Douglass said, “it is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.” That’s why it’s so important that we invest in early childhood education and make sure that our children have a strong start in life. I was honored to speak at the launch of the House Pre-K Caucus this week to discuss this priority and highlight the important work of Maryland’s Judy Centers. I also made a new friend, Daniel Tiger. Ugga Mugga @repkclark - thanks for the photo and your leadership on the caucus.

Today, I joined House Democrats at a forum to discuss the harmful impact of President Trump’s #MuslimBan with panelists, including Gold Star father Khizr Khan and U.S. military veterans. This unconstitutional ban plays right into the hands of our enemies and threatens both our safety and our principles.

Trump’s #MuslimBan is unconstitutional and makes America less safe. I urge my Republican colleagues to stand up for American values and work with Democrats to reverse the ban. Click the link in my bio to watch my remarks on the House Floor today in opposition to the ban.

As the #115thCongress convenes today, Americans are deeply worried about the future and are looking to their Representatives to work together to craft responsible, just, and wise policies that heal the divisions of the recent election and renew faith in government to be a force for good in Americans’ lives. To that end, House Democrats will be working tirelessly over the next two years to create jobs and opportunity so that all Americans can Make It In America while holding the Republican Majority accountable for actions that undermine America’s future and threaten the rights and opportunities of hardworking Americans and their families.

#PearlHarbor75 is a moment to remember that those who served in World War II sacrificed for a vision of America and the world that remains a work in progress. Let us continue to mark this day in the spirit of remembrance and as a reminder of the great work we must continue to make our own. #PearlHarborRemembranceDay

Before Congress adjourns in a few days, here’s a review of the House GOP’s Do-Nothing 114th Congress.

Today, I re-launched the House Democrats’ Official Online Resume Bank and introduced a new jobs announcement board to help improve House Democrats’ hiring process and strengthen diversity. These tools continue to advance our commitment to openness, transparency, and equal opportunity.

Today, we mark five years since the official end of the discriminatory ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy. As we face the national security challenges and threats of the twenty-first century, it is critical that every dedicated, talented individual who wishes to step up and serve the nation they love be allowed the opportunity to do so, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. I will continue working with our military leaders, veterans, and LGBT rights groups to ensure that all who wish to serve in uniform and are able may do so without discrimination.

As we mark the 15th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, we pause to remember those who lost their lives and honor the sacrifices made by first responders to save others. #NeverForget

Thank you @vp for coming to the Capitol to call on Republicans in Congress to do their job and address the Zika virus, hold confirmation hearings for #SCOTUS nominee Judge Merrick Garland, and address gun violence in America. Republican inaction has put American lives at risk and it’s past time they take action on these and other critical issues. #DoYourJob

On #NPS100, a #TBT to my camping trip in @yosemitenps in 1987. #FindYourPark
