RENEE HAHNEL  Lover of travel, nature + storytelling Aussie girl based in Seattle Hitched to @MatthewHahnel Sony Alpha ambassador Blog ↡ FAQ ↡ Contact

We’re publishing a book! 📚 Finally I can share this big project we have been working on for months! For those of you who are new here... @matthewhahnel and myself traveled to all the US National Parks last year. It took us 7 months, 25,000+ miles in a van, 39 states, 2 US territories, and countless trails hiked.
This trip was all encompassing and in many ways life changing. It allowed us to experience famous parks like Yosemite, but also showed us the hidden beauties this country has to offer. It humbled us in the best possible way and left us wanting to share what we had experienced with others... with you guys! 🏔
This book, Roaming America, will be a collection of photos and stories from our journey. It will also have tips for helping to plan you own park adventure! You all know how much I LOVE coffee table books, and I’m so freaking excited to have our very own publication in living rooms around the world ☺️
It will be available next spring/summer and we will be taking you along on the journey to publication these next few months. Follow along on my stories for sneak previews and to stay up to date on when pre-orders become available 📖 #RoamingAmerica
Lastly, thank you all for your ongoing support of our adventures. Your encouragement and interest helps make these projects possible and I’m so thankful for this community we have created 💛

One of the bluest lakes I’ve ever seen 💙 Skeptical? Check out the iPhone video in my stories. Despite looking beautiful, I can confirm that the water was freeeeeezing 😜
In other news... @MatthewHahnel and I have some BIG news to share with you guys! And before you all think it, no, I’m not pregnant 😆 We will be sharing all the exciting details this Thursday, so stay tuned!!! ✨

It was a really tough decision choosing where to base ourselves in America. We had obtained residency but had no idea where to actually reside.

First we tried Colorado and absolutely loved it there, but felt like something was missing. Then we lived on the road for 18 months and had such a great experience, but it had its challenges and we really missed having a home base.
So there we were again, trying to decide where to live. We had always felt drawn to Washington with its jagged mountains and overall epic scenery. So we decided on Seattle and made the big move last winter.
We haven’t once regretted that decision. Washington is now our home and I wake up every day so thankful for our little house, the pine trees outside my office window, and the dream life we are building.
I’m always so curious where you guys live! Share in the comments your city & country. Maybe you will even meet some of your neighbors 😆

It’s a dream of ours to one day own a little cabin in the mountains. For now we will play pretend 😆

✨NEW BLOG POST✨ Olympic National Park Adventure: 24 Hour Getaway From Seattle (link in bio). I’m sharing my recommended itinerary for seeing some of the best mountain views on the Olympic Peninsula, including this incredible hike. The town of Stowe gives me all the Gilmore Girls feels... anyone else?! 😆 This was one of my favorite stops on our New England fall road trip. Blog post linked in my bio 🍂

Mountains, sunrises and music... three things that feed my soul and inspire me to dream big. I’ve partnered with @USbank to create a #PowerofPossible music station on @Pandora, filled with some of my favorite tunes (click the link in my bio to listen).
I travel a lot of the year, but having a home base in Seattle has really opened a whole new source of inspiration and possibilities for adventure. I love getting out locally and camping in the mountains and always have some tunes ready for the car ride and for moments like this... watching the sky light up and a new day begin.
Enjoy the mixtape and let me know what you think! #SeattlePossible #sponsored

4 years ago I would have been too embarrassed to take this style of photo. I probably would have cared too much about what the other hikers and tourists around me would have thought. What if they judged me for taking a “posed” hiking selfie? What if they laughed, or whispered to each other?
Posing for travel selfies (or any selfie!) can feel awkward and embarrassing. Over the years I’ve learned ways to break through those fears of judgement and have began sharing my tips with others. I recently asked one of my incredible students, Lena from @wheretfislena, to put together a guide on how to take better travel selfies.
Lena is a travel blogger and badass selfie taker. She inspires me in real life and on Instagram with her confidence and passion for life. This blog post is full of practical and inspiring tips to help up your selfie game - click the link in my bio to take a read!
While you’re at it, go follow @wheretfislena’s travels, you’ll love her humor & zest for life!

What’s your dream fall road trip? 🍁🍂

I’m not sure it can get any better than the colors in New England, but I’m totally up to try and beat it next year!

I have a blog post on our New England fall road trip, including a 5 day itinerary, how to plan around the changing leaves, and suggested photo spots - click the link in my bio!

The outdoors has shaped me in so many ways. It’s taught me to believe in my strengths, work on my weaknesses, to appreciate the small things, and to be a steward for protecting its beauty.
Being out in the backcountry has always inspired me to be a better person, to be more present, and has forever been there as an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
This life of travel and adventure I’m building is driven by my love for the outdoors. It’s a constant inspiration for my business, creativity, and relationships.
This month I’ve partnered with @Backcountry to get out in nature and share my experience because they, like me, believe we’re at our best when we’re outside doing what we love. Ive been really enjoying wearing pieces from their new fall and winter line, especially this super cozy sweater (linked in my stories)
How has the outdoors shaped you?
