@tijnpols battling the heat #fromwhereiride

You know you're not from around when you're being stared at like that. #fromwhereiride

Already back in Amsterdam, and still a little worn out after this intense cycling trip, little sleep and all the travelling. I just saw the results and even though I rode about half of 'La Morzine' alone, I ended up 25th! Really happy with that result. 💪

What a day. I started in the second group but managed to get to the front within a few kilometers, just before the Col de la Joux Verte. On the Joux Verte I was riding at the front, but man the pace was high. The peloton cracked everywhere. I also got dropped from the first group but managed to stay with three others for the remainder of the climb. We soon descended back to Morzine, heading Northbound to the Col de la Corbier. The others were still riding like crazy zo I quickly decided I'd go ride on my own pace as I knew the biggest climb was still a hundred kilometers down the road.

After that I rode on my own for nearly eighty kilometers, sometimes wondering if I was still part of this ride. I also had some time to take in my surroundings. Quiet little villages with a church tower right in the middle of it. A road snaking through the valleys. Cows turning their heads as you pass them, their cow bells clinging distinctively.

It was also really hot today, and I missed the first waterspot on top of Joux Verte. Halfway I had the chance to refill, but as I approached the major challenge of the day, the Joux Plane, they were also empty for quite some time. I was desperate for water, but the next stop would be on top of the Joux Plane, about a thousand vertical meters from where I was. I had no option but to go for it. The pace dropped gradually and I was almost crawling in the end, counting down the kilometers to the top. Endlessly.

After I finally managed to get to the top, it was all easy from there on. A long descent to Morzine and a short climb to the Lac de Moriand. I finished around 30th place, not bad at all.

After half a day of traveling and looking after our luggage, we finally arrived in Morzine around 4 pm. The weather was perfect, not too warm, not too cold. And no clouds in the sky which meant there wasn't even the slightest chance on rain. We decided to go on the Avoriaz climb after we had collected our race number for tomorrow. We only did 30k, but with more than 1000 vertical meters it was just the challenge we hoped for.

Also, the vistas along the way were stunning, on the picture you see the Joux Verte, the first climb of tomorrow's Morzine Haut Chablais, a 155k GranFondo with almost 4000 vertical meters. After today's sneak preview I must say I'm really excited for tomorrow!

Looking forward to seeing some mountains again tomorrow with @tijnpols ! We'll be riding the Morzine Haute Chablais on sunday, a GranFondo that includes the Joux Plane and some other nasty (and beautiful) climbs.

On the picture you see the Splügen pass in Switserland, one of the most impressive climbs of last year during @theridenl !

@miertjaah doing her thing

Out on the road, out on the road I go.

Keep moving forward. #actinglikeadrone

Good luck everyone in @theridenl! A year ago @harmspoelstra and I climbed the Stelvio... I can't wait to head back to the high mountains again coming weekend in the Morzine Haut Chablais cyclosportive. 🤘

Sitting, waiting, wishing. #gramthedam
