Forward folds are very calming to the nervous system and cleansing to the mind. It's no wonder, that as a nervous, high energy, worry-wart, forward folding is one of my favorite ways to stretch. When in doubt, fold it out! What's your favorite pose for body/mind therapy? .

Having some trouble un-hunching my shoulders and straightening my standing leg and spine. It will take some time to open my hips enough to get this with good posture.

As a yoga teacher it is easy to think of yoga as something on the "to-do" list and lose the magical around yoga feeling that initially drew you in. The last few months of teaching I have felt extremely uninterested in yoga and even felt like it was a drag to "go to work" and teach a class. Of course this is not my true innermost feelings, but surface feelings clouding up my true sight. I have been bothered by this shift and have been wanting to change but haven't quite been able to find the authentic, organic motivation to do anything about it. Well, last week after a long period of not meditating regularly, I started to meditate again. I started up again due to another issue in my life that I had no idea what to do about, except meditate. After a week, lo and behold, not only did that issue resolve itself, but everything else in my life that was out of balance started to shift as well. Including my yoga practice and my attitude around teaching: to myself and to others. Yesterday, after teaching two great classes back to back, I was so inspired when I got home, that I put on some rocking music, lit some incense, got naked, and practiced a full hour in my bedroom by myself. I felt I was falling back in love with yoga. I am so grateful to be rediscovering the magic and motivation. I definitely can owe it to meditating when I felt pushed up against a wall. Now, if I can keep meditating when I am not feeling pushed up against a wall....think of the endless possibilities....

On Sundays I teach two yoga classes back to back. The first, is a Gentle Yoga class which I tend to incorporate a lot more meditation and energy work into. The second, following right after, is a power yoga class. Which I usually just kinda flow through without bringing too much "deep" talk into. Today, when I was teaching my Gentle Yoga class, I somehow began to focus on the throat chakra, even though it wasn't in my class plan. I started to do a whole bunch of neck stretches and urged my students to focus on the energetic anatomy of their neck, their area of self expression. At the end I had them lie down on their backs in a heart opener, and guided them through a meditation to use our throat and neck as an energetic bridge between our minds and our hearts, linking the two and allowing for clear communication between them both. I thought this was all for them. Little did I know, it was for me. In the class immediately following, the power yoga class. I started it off like I never have before. I heard my voice strong and clear, and my eyes started to water as I heard the words coming out of my mouth. I never would have planned to say those things to start off a power yoga class, but alas, they were laying in my heart waiting for a clear pathway in my throat to open and let me speak them. The following power yoga class was amazing. I felt the difference and so did my students. It's funny being a yoga teacher, because you think you teach for your students. The truth is, when you following your intuition, you usually end up teaching what you yourself need to learn the most. โœจ๐Ÿ’™โœจ #yoga #yogalife #yogainspiration #yogalove #yogagirl #yogaeverywhere #yogaeverydamnday #yogacommunity #yogateacher #yogastudent #yogi #yogini #prana #asana #dharma #spiritualyoga #gentleyoga #poweryoga #meditation #chakras #throatchakra #5thchakra #selfexpression #communication #healyourself #openup #loveandlight #realheartrealtalk #realheartyoga

I sometimes feel in this fast paced society that if you are not bullheadedly bashing into your projects at the speed of light, then you are not working on them at all. Or is it just me who feels that way? I've taken a step back. I've picked up my foot and have it dangling in the air while I consider where I would like to set it down next, and how hard or soft I would like to set it down, and if I should keep my socks on or off when I do so. I'm taking my time. I've gotten old to enough to know a false start when I see one, but am still young enough to have the blinding ambition to keep trying. Well, maybe at 30 years old I finally struck the right balance. My next project is to be intricately woven like a spiders web. It takes time and patience. Maybe even a little consideration. Of options, I mean. Not of Emmy nominations. So... to a world of fast-paced, over-achieving, do-ers... I say: No Thank You. I'll let my foot wander before I set it down.
