Here's why the Gold Coast beaches are closed to swimming today.

Lend me a leg!
(Spiders take 2)
Another pair of Golden Orb Weaver spiders. Small one in the messed up web at the top is the male. Note that the female has completely lost her 2nd leg on her LHS - to the right of pic. You try walking with only 7 legs, not so smooth.

Those spiders. .
Golden Orb Weaver spiders living large (female) and small (male) hanging off the balcony 1 floor above my daughter's place. Don't tell her!
Shot from a distance of 2m (6') with a 300mm telephoto lens.

"The Seahorse Races." Former American sand sculptor Kevin Crawford worked his magic on 10 tonnes of sand to be crowned Australian Sand Sculpting Champion of the year at the Gold Coast's Sand Safari Festival. #sandsafari2018

Huge jellyfish dancing in the breezy night in a blaze of colour. This inflatable street art gives tourists to Surfers Paradise yet one more visual delight during the Sand Safari Arts Festival. #sandsafari2018

One last smile from this lovely mermaid at the end of a day of posing with kids at the Gold Coast's #sandsafari2018

That church. .
Brisbane's heritage listed Albert Street Uniting Church viewed from the 42nd floor of the Meriton Suites tower. Construction of this fine looking building for the Methodist church was completed in 1889.

Those who go down to the sea in ...trucks!
[butchering Psalm 107:23]
So over the weekend the authorities banned swimming on the Gold Coast beaches due to dangerous surf conditions. Emerging from the shady bushes this lifeguard on duty drove her ute to the water's edge so she could give some foolhardy punters (not in frame) a serve over the vehicle's PA system. The allcaps "No Flags = No Swim" message is a reference to the iconic Aussie beach safety system of swimming between the flags. Of course for several days the flags never saw the light of day.

I sun, you crane!
Ahh, a corny caption for today's opportunistic sunrise pic. Can someone suggest a better one please?
Shot notes:
1/1000 sec at f/22, ISO 100.
300mm on Canon 70-300mm.
Hand held, manual focus.

Quick question - how many legs can you count? Random peeps at the beach.

Hey what about ME? A black crow coming close to remind me that birds actually own the skies, during a lull in my planespotting activity photographing scores of noisy jet aircraft.
