Years ago in Kentucky, I picked up this beautiful leaf skeleton as I was leaving my college roommate’s wedding and framed it when I returned home. I love its delicate and intricate beauty. I hope that whatever you are doing today, you can find the beauty in what is around you, too.

I’ve got to be honest: making labels for my quilts is not my idea of fun. UNTIL!! I remembered this awesome grid/graph paper print I have left over from the #CombinatoricsQuilt! I have a test label sewn together with just a bit of fussy cutting care to have the horizontal lines ready for me to use to write on. 🤓

Today’s diversion: cutting hexagons to make some hexie coasters (tutorial can be found on Sharla from @thistlethicketstudio’s blog).

This week, Jane @quiltjane offers a fun bonus block in the #SplendidSampler #SewAlong: The Last Leaf! Fall is taking its slow time working through the trees here: some are bare, some are green, and others are brilliant fall colors. What has fall been like for you?

Today I didn’t have much time in my sewing room, but at least I got my fabric together so I will be ready to start on my November piecing in the #ModernPlusSampler QAL with Cheryl @meadowmistdesigns and Paige @quiltedblooms. My fabrics this month are @freespiritfabrics Kaffe Shot Cotton in Pudding and @konacotton in Pink and Pomegranate. 💖

Last November, I was honored to contribute to the Handmade with Love super bundle. With contributors like Alison Glass, it was awesome to be invited to collaborate. The bundle is on it’s final sale days before it goes away forever. Click the link in my profile to get all the details!!

✨✨The Fall 2018 #TipsAndTutorialsFestival has officially begun!!✨✨
Cheryl @meadowmistdesigns and I are co-hosting the festival so hop over to our blogs to link up your recent blog tutorials and learn! When I woke up this morning there were already 29 (!!) tutorials linked up. The linkups are open all week and voting opens on Saturday.

Many thanks to the Festival’s generous sponsors:

In preparation for the opening of the Fall 2018 #TipsAndTutorialsFestival that Cheryl @meadowmistdesigns and I will be co-hosting starting in just a few more hours (!!), I shared an introductory #CombinatoricsBlock tutorial #OnTheBlog yesterday. I think there are a lot of fun possibilities with the block (swipe to see one mini quilt layout option) and concept. I look forward to sharing more with you soon!
In the mean time, are you ready to link up your tips and tutorials? The linkup opens at midnight Eastern and runs through Friday at midnight when voting opens. I look forward to learning from the community!!

Today #OnTheBlog (#LinkInProfile) I am sharing an introductory block tutorial to help explain what I mean with my “Combinatorics” series of quilts.
In the simplest sense, when I say “Combinatorics”, I mean combining two quilt blocks together to create a new quilt block. The easiest example I can give is using two squares (which can be viewed as a block in their own) and combing them together to create half-square triangles.
When you combine two stripe blocks in a similar method you create a fun offset, staggered triangle block!

Putting my sewing skills to work for @wabi_sabi_overland: I sewed a cover for a very stiff rubber foam plug. Swipe through to see how it looks installed! 💙 #wabisabioverland

Do you remember the vintage quilt top I shared last week? My client was able to get all the tucks that we pin basted sewn down, and it loaded onto my longarm and quilted up beautifully as a result.

I used 50wt @aurifilthread 2460 (Dark Carmine Red), which blends beautifully with the red dashing in the vintage quilt top, to quilt a loose stipple/meander across the quilt. I think that it is amazing that the tucks seemed to magically melt into the quilt!

I am thrilled with how it finished and so is my client. The backing is a lovely wide backing print that has a nice nod to the vintage top.

Even though the #Aurifil 2460 is darker than the backing print, it does not detract heavily from the print even up close. It felt good to get this finished this week. I also made my November goals list which always helps me feel more confident about decisions I make / what to work on next. What did you work on this week?
