Those who buried you, didn’t know you were a seed.

“And even now, people ask me if I’m scared. And I always reply: when you’re standing up for what’s right, there’s no need to be scared. Because when you’re standing up for what’s right, it will never be a tragedy. It will always be a victory.” This week, I returned to the school I used to teach at as a guest speaker. It was so lovely to see my old colleagues and friends again - to share our stories of the last year. Leaving teaching was one of the hardest decisions of my life; I was so happy (tired, but happy) and I was doing well. Unsurprisingly, as I’m not very good at dealing with change, it took me a good six months to even BEGIN settling in my new job. But seeing and speaking to my students made me realise how much I have grown and changed over the last year. I’ve experienced things I would have never experienced had I stayed in the comfort and safety of my old job. There have been high points and low points, but I feel so much more independent and grown up (kind of). And most of all, I have learnt so much about the world and myself - I have stories to tell and wisdom to share that I wouldn’t have had before. Moral of the story? Your life doesn’t get better by chance. It gets better by change. Also, I’m writing a book and you should buy it when it comes out. Thanks

Proud to sign this letter alongside a group of extraordinary women.

@WorldVisionUK have launched a new campaign to help end violence against children around the world. The campaign - #ItTakesAWorld - is asking the UK public to sign a petition urging the UK government to prioritise protecting children in emergencies.
To support the launch of the campaign, World Vision joined up with London-based street artist Graffiti Kings, who worked with four survivors of London street violence to create a graffiti mural. The group, all in their 20s, took part in the project to highlight the damage violence inflicts on children’s lives. Every child deserves to be safe. Sign the petition today #ChildNotSoldier

Was reminded of that time, the summer before last, when me and @queenmehreen did a segment for #bbc Sunday Morning Live about mobile phone obsession. Feels even more relevant now more than ever, as a recent study of more than 91,000 people has found that late night social media scrolling increases our likelihood of developing depression. I guess it’s hardly news - constant comparing is never gonna make us feel good. I’ve gone back to my old routine of reading some of my book before bed and actually turn the phone off -(I know, old school!) it makes me sleep soo much better. Anyhoo, that’s my Tuesday tip. Phone off: better sleep; better mental health.

And ps. New tv project soon come x

Three weeks travelling together. First reunion.

Catch up with this beautiful lot last night. ❤️

Mehreen for Prime Minister.

Had the loveliest night at the #bbcsounds launch yesterday! (Watching @craigdavid perform ‘Fill Me In’ goes down as one of the highlights of my life. The excitement was real.)

Repost @teachingawards - The winner of the Gold Award for Teaching Assistant of the Year 2018
goes to James Poynter of @clacton_cchs, Clacton. Congratulations 🙌🏆! James received his award from former teacher and TV presenter @thequeenmehreen #ClassroomHeroes

We got our library cards today and though I’m so excited, it’s so upsetting to see the effect budget cuts have had. I used to take Amelia here every day when she was younger (swipe) - I taught her to read here. Now, the children’s rooms have been closed and no longer belong to the library, because the government wants to “rent them out”. Tragic.
