All we can do now is pray.
I am located in central Florida. The most recent track has the eye of the storm moving directly over us now.
We will be hit before, during, and after as Irma will move straight up the entire state. We will be hit as a category 4. The storm itself is larger than the state of FL.
Evacuating is an option we are fearful of taking. Sounds crazy, ignorant, and stupid (I know). The roads are jammed and at a complete standstill. What normally takes 3-4 hours to travel is taking 12-15+ hours. It's just going to get worse. Gas stations are all out of gas and to travel we fear of running out and not being able to get more to continue our travels.
I can put my family in harms way by evacuating and possibly being stranded on the interstate in a car.
Staying home also puts us in harms way but the extent is still UNKNOWN. We would rather take that chance in our home rather than a car.
I have a special needs daughter that is completely dependent on me for care. Meds, treatments, feeding tube, etc. I also have a two year old. As a mother - it's a hard decision and one I'm still confused about. It's not an easy fix. There are many pros and cons to both options.
Pray for my family. Pray for the entire state of Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina as Irma will be impacting them as well. A storm far bigger and stronger than anything we have dealt with before in past history.
If you live in FL - my prayers are with you all as well.
