Volunteered at my first #schooloflife gig last night. What an honour it was that it so happened to be a Mark Manson talk based around his best selling book 'The subtle art of not giving a fuck'. His overall view was that hyper-optimistic teachings of the self help world don't really work, and that it is important to accept the ordinariness of life rather than chasing highs all the time to seek fulfilment. As an ordinary man himself, with no qualifications in the area of psychology or even sociology, it was a talk that really stuck with me. He had much to say, but what he about responsibility really stuck with me. He said that we all tend to play the victim; but sometimes we have to accept we can be a victim and still be personally accountable for what has happened to us. Essentially, to own our responsibility. Overall I bloody loved it. Go check out his book (it's the one with the obnoxious orange cover and the word fuck on it in your local book store).
