I've been having fun making more mermaid dolls. The mermaid I made last year was so popular, I thought I'd make some more. Unfortunately, I didn't keep her handmade pattern so starting from scratch with finding the perfect fit and size. Also the price is being lowered from the original. I am stuffing these dolls with polyfill instead of wool and I'm painting the faces on instead of embroidering them. I've learned it's ok to break some rules ... I really do thrive to carry that 100% organic product for the customer but, the truth is many don't know (good from okay) as long as it looks nice. Changing little things can help reduce time and price. When I do use the best of the best the dolls end up being $180 with the materials and my time and when it is in a gallery the price has to be doubled just to get my half back. These two lovely ladies will be going to Featherly Ever After at $120. I will be making more mermaids in the next few weeks for the Bird Nest Gallery too and for my own shows.
