There are so many commercials and ad campaigns from the 80’s and 90’s that elicit such a happy response from me. From the “have a Coke and a smile” jingle to the “Bud-weis-er” Frogs and everything in between. It was just such a time of creativity and ingenuity that really can’t be matched in today’s world. That said, there always seems to be that one ad campaign that sticks with me and seems to fall naturally into so many different conversations. For me, that is the “Where’s the beef?” campaign from Wendy’s. Maybe it’s because I am such a food centric person so an ad campaign that focuses on not getting enough of the good stuff would resonate with me so well, or maybe it’s just because those little old ladies were just so dang funny. I guess I’ll never know. 🍽
What I do know is that for some reason, whenever I’m fasting, this ad campaign and the “Where’s the beef?” slogan always seem to pop in to my head when I am fasting. I recently added in a 24 hour fast 2-3 days per week. I was supposed to be having one of those fasts yesterday, but by the time the 24hrs rolled around, I wasn’t feeling well (not related to the fasting) and decided to skip dinner and just go to morning and see how I felt. Surprisingly, it’s now lunch time, and I can honestly say, that I’m not hungry. No matter what, I’ll break this fast come dinner time tonight, but for now, I’m just going to keep going and see how I feel. What does this have to do with “Where’s the beef?”? I don’t know what to tell you. I was looking in my desk drawer for a tea bag and saw my stash of plastic-ware and salt and pepper staring back at me longingly wondering when their next meal might be and that is just what popped in to my head. The funny thing is? I’m planning on chicken for dinner tonight.
