“My Dad has always been a huge influence. At age 18, he came across the Mexico/Arizona border with dreams of getting to San Francisco where his older sister was living. He managed to work odd jobs mostly on ranches throughout California and finally worked his way up to the Bay Area. He got a job in a restaurant in Berkeley, starting out as a dishwasher and when he retired some 40 years later he was the head chef. This just proves it doesn’t really matter where you come from as long as you work hard for what you want, you will achieve it.” –Marcos Navarrete, Ergonomic Specialist #HispanicHeritageMonth #InsidePixar

“Growing up in Mexico absolutely inspired and informed my style of art. My entire aesthetic you could say is very Mexican. One of the best pieces of advice I got in school is to admire and let other artists inspire you, but ultimately, draw from your own experiences. That is what is going to get you noticed - your personality coming through your drawings. That was really valuable advice for me because that is when I started to focus on things that were important and interesting to me - travel and my own culture and not being afraid to just pull from life. It’s because of this that doors have opened for me. I’ve been lucky to work on projects that have to do with Mexico and Latin culture because my work is so inspired by my country.” —Ana Ramirez, Visual Development Artist #HispanicHeritageMonth #InsidePixar

“Growing up, whenever we would go to our grandma’s house she would always tell my cousins and me about La Llorona, or the Lolo Lady as we liked to call her. It's an old scary Mexican folktale. Whenever we were up to trouble or getting into mischief, my grandma would say that the Lolo lady was in the basement and if we weren’t good we’d have to go down there for time out. To this day, I’m scared of basements and the Lolo lady - but looking back on those memories with my grandma makes me laugh.” –Jenna Huerta, Lead Graphic Designer #HispanicHeritageMonth #InsidePixar

“I saw the film ‘Amores perros,’ by Alejandro González Iñárritu, in high school. That was the first film from Mexico that I saw in a movie theater that people were talking about and I remember being completely blown away. Here’s a director from Mexico who’s being internationally recognized for producing amazing work. That’s when I knew, okay, hands-down, I want to be a filmmaker. He gave me the inspiration that maybe one day, I could make it in this industry too.” –Jesus Martinez, Animation Department Manager #HispanicHeritageMonth #InsidePixar

“Embrace the things that make you different. Sometimes we have a tendency to want to blend in or run away from what makes us stand out, but the greatest things you’re ever going to do are going to come from the things that are uniquely yours. Don’t be afraid to let your differences shine and celebrate what makes you unique.” –Adrian Molina, #PixarCoco Co-Director #HispanicHeritageMonth #InsidePixar
