“Although your goals are important, make sure to enjoy the journey there. If you can give yourself challenging opportunities and experiences, it'll set you on a path for success. Also, always try and surround yourself with people that are smarter and better than you. It will inspire you to aspire to be great.” – Ken Hinoki, Director of Production Finance #AsianPacificAmericanHeritageMonth #InsidePixar | 📷: Deborah Coleman

“I really love celebrating Chinese New Year—there's a new zodiac sign, so many performances airing on TV, and my whole family is together at home. It also feels like a second fresh start to the year. I think that Tomb Sweeping Day is probably the most important holiday for me. I have been back to my parents' hometowns and visited the graves of my family members. I think it was important for me to pay respect to them in the way they would have wanted. Being a part of a tradition is what makes me feel connected to the past.” – Wendy Chen, Software Engineer #AsianPacificAmericanHeritageMonth #InsidePixar | 📷: Deborah Coleman

“Having an Asian Pacific heritage has brought me together with other Pixarians with a similar background. But what I love most about it is that everyone at Pixar interacts and collaborates so often that there’s a strong camaraderie between us and a desire to learn new points of view. That curiosity to learn about something less familiar is, I think, at the core of what makes Pixar tick. To be a chef at Pixar, you have to be spontaneous, to be able to pivot quickly with new ideas, and to collaborate with others often. It is a thrilling environment to create in!” – Douglas Monsalud, Chef de Cuisine #AsianPacificAmericanHeritageMonth #InsidePixar | 📷: Deborah Coleman

"The Chamorro culture is matrilineal, and I come from a line of great women. My late grandmother, Florence, lived through WWII and survived the Japanese occupation on Guam. She taught me what it meant to be forgiving and compassionate. My mom, Kristine, had me at a young age, but she didn’t let being a young mom stop her from going out and working for what she wanted. She’s a successful entrepreneur who manages and produces events on Guam and is one of the most humble, hardworking, selfless people I know. From a young age, both she and my dad taught me the value of hard work and the importance of quality work. My work ethic and who I am are a direct reflection of my family, and I take a lot of pride in that.” –@manasinajana, Talent Outreach Specialist #AsianPacificAmericanHeritageMonth #InsidePixar | 📷: Deborah Coleman

“I’ve always known Filipino culture as a culture rooted in family, community, and respect. These underlying principles translate well to how I collaborate with my colleagues—fostering an environment where we feel like we belong and are empowered to exchange and execute ideas. As the workplace continues to grow more diverse, I think it’s important to show respect and allow ourselves to be open to learn about points of view outside of our own. Storytelling is at the core of everything we do at Pixar, and nurturing an environment where we feel safe to share our experiences in order to enrich and enhance the authenticity of our films is a priority.” – @paulabadillaart, Artist/Designer #AsianPacificAmericanHeritageMonth #InsidePixar | 📷: Deborah Coleman

“I was born in Seoul, Korea but spent most of my life in California. Growing up, people would often confuse me as being Japanese or Chinese. When I’d explain to them I was from Korea, they would look at me quizzically. Luckily, there is more awareness of other cultures these days. My hope is that future generations will continue to educate and embrace each other—dialogue is important especially in these times when we might want to retreat back into what is familiar and ‘safe.’” – @heyhanayoon, Art Department Manager #AsianPacificAmericanHeritageMonth #InsidePixar | 📷: Deborah Coleman
