We live in a hyper-digitally-connected world, yet we are drifting apart. We are socially isolated, yet we seek opportunities to bond on handheld devices.
Through his photographs, Fatforehead sifts through this paradox, searching for moments when people try to connect with others or something inward.
Come out and join us at the Piranha Shop for @fatforehead exhibition ‘Contact High’ and support the work of this Seattle artist. Hope to see you there tomorrow night from 5:30 to 9 PM

The Piranha Shop is pleased to present ‘Contact High’ the first solo exhibition by @fatforehead aka Eddie Rehfeldt this Tuesday, March 6 from 5:30 to 9 PM • Rehfeldt was born in Chicago and raised around the world. He started photographing in high school, traveling in Asia during the summers and living in the American South for the rest of the year. These early, globetrotting years established his style and fascination with isolation and communication. After dropping out of college, he landed in New York City and fell in love with music and street photography. In 1991, Eddie moved to Seattle and joined forces with Josh Taft to create Cowboy Films. Their award-winning music videos for Cypress Hill (“Insane in the Membrane”); Tribe Called Quest (“Award Tour”); De la Soul (Fallen); Stone Temple Pilots (“Sex Type Thing” and “Plush”); Alice in Chains (“Would”); and Pearl Jam (“Even Flow” and “Oceans”) defined music videos for a generation. In 1997, he wrote and directed “AFTER,” which was in competition at the Sundance Film Festival and the Seattle International Film Festival. Since then as Fatforehead Eddie has photographed bands and their fans at festivals, including the Sasquatch Music Festival and Bumbershoot Arts and Music Festival. Those images have been published in renowned music publications such as Rolling Stone and SPIN. There are plans to take “Contact High” to New York and Los Angeles in the fall of 2018. He proudly lives on Phinney Ridge.”

City Arts Band Crush is back!

On Saturday, Dec. 9, we will transform SoDo’s Piranha Shop into a recording studio for an intimate combined set featuring local indie bands @cataldomusic and @listentoruler.

Cataldo is an indie rock project fronted by songwriter Eric Anderson and Ruler is the performance moniker of Matt Batey and his band. They're distinct projects with distinct sounds, but they very intentionally overlap: Anderson plays guitar and keys in Ruler and Batey plays lead guitar in Cataldo. Both full bands will be joining each other in collaboration—accompanied by a horn section—for a live musical mashup.

City Arts Band Crush is a concert and video series from City Arts that celebrates the ties between Northwest musicians. We ask our favorite music-makers to choose artists they love and then unite them for a special, one-night-only combined set. The resulting concerts are singular events performed for a 100-person in-studio audience and captured for the web in an expertly mixed video recording.
