#TBT to this extraordinary Patek Philippe Ref. 2526 with black lacquer dial and gilt mirrored Arabic numerals. The Reference 2526 was Patek Philippe's first automatic waterproof wriswatch and it houses one of the very best movements, the cal. 12'600 AT. Several very rare examples were uncovered this year, this being one of the most surprising. It completely departs from the traditional dress style of the reference and reminds us instead of other military-inspired Patek Philippe watches made on special request. One of the highlights of the recent #HKWA6, the present Patek Philippe ref. 2526 sold for HK$2,375,000, smashing its pre-sale estimate in the process.

Following the news this morning of the sale of McQueen's Submariner, on October 25 in New York, we would like to share our press release, containing additional photos of the watch and copies of the letters from Rolex and Loren Janes attesting to its provenance. We can also confirm that McQueen's Rolex Submariner will be offered as found, with an additional, period correct ref. 5513 dial and hand set (see fourth photo), acquired by the consignor at great expense to bring the watch back to its original configuration as it would have appeared on the wrist of McQueen in the 1960s. Finally, we are happy to announce that a portion of the proceeds from the auction of this watch will benefit The Boys Republic, The McQueen Family charity that rehabilitated McQueen when he was a youth. An additional portion of the proceeds will be gifted to the surviving family members of Loren Janes. Link to the full press release in our bio.

We are delighted to announce the sale of a historically important and previously unknown Rolex Submariner Ref. 5513 owned and worn by Steve McQueen. Given by McQueen to his personal stuntman, Loren Janes, and inscribed on the caseback «TO LOREN, THE BEST DAMN STUNTMAN IN THE WORLD. STEVE», it was thought to have been lost in a fire. With its absolutely fascinating provenance, the watch was owned until recently by the late Loren Janes himself, and its remarkable tale of survival, the watch comes to auction as the single most important watch associated with Steve McQueen to ever appear publicly. It will be sold in New York on October 25, with a pre-sale estimate of $300,000 to $600,000. Full story, written by Michael Solomon, on @Forbes. Link in the bio.

Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo achieved HK$124,633,750 / US$15,890,803 during The Hong Kong Watch Auction: SIX, which represents a 17 per cent increase from the previous auction held in Hong Kong. The sale, led by @thperazzi, concludes the Spring season and brings the total achieved in May 2018 to over US$61 Million, a new record for a single seaon of sales. The Hong Kong Watch Auction: SIX will be remembered for its tighly curated selection of important vintage watches. A total of 216 collectible timepieces of the highest quality were sold to collectors from 47 countries across six continents, including a record number of over 460 online bidders. Particularly strong results were achieved for both vintage and modern watches, including antique pocket watches such as the pair by Edouard Juvet, and the beautiful selection by Patek Philippe. Independent watchmakers ignited great competition that brought noteworthy prices for Greubel Forsey, and the Richard Mille Ref. RM 003 AC. Full results are now published online. Link in bio.

Taking the top spot of the Hong Kong Watch Auction: SIX, as expected given its pre-sale estimate, is this incredibly rare no-valve Rolex Sea-Dweller Ref. 1665. The watch achieved HK$ 4,900,000 all-in. The sales total for #HKWA6 was HK$ 124,633,750 (approximately $15.8 Million), selling 94% by lot and 98% by value. Full results are now published online. Link in the bio.

The Hong Kong Watch Auction: SIX takes place tomorrow with approximately 230 wristwatches and pocket watches for collectors to choose from, including this stunning first series Rolex Milgauss Ref. 1019 from the 1970s (not pictured: additional second series black dial, box and papers). The sale will take place at @mo_hkg and will begin at 1PM (HKT) / 7AM (CET) / 1AM (EST). It will be streamed live on our website. If you can't make it, you may still place your bids in real-time online on or by downloading the Phillips app. Good luck to all the bidders tomorrow! #HKWA6

Rolex’s Oyster Cosmograph has become one of the most celebrated vintage wristwatches today, with collectors passionately vying for the best of the best among these icons, the “Paul Newman Panda” being one of the most desirable variants. The nickname “Panda” derives from the dial’s similarity to the bear with a similar white and black pattern. It has a modern classic aesthetic with a clear and easily readable dial. The present Ref. 6263, from 1971, has all the hallmarks desired by scholars of the Rolex Daytona and, just as importantly, is very well preserved. It is Lot 825 of the #HKWA6, taking place tomorrow in Hong Kong at the @mo_hkg.

In 1936, Bovet created and patented a “mono-rattrapante” chronograph system that acted similarly to a split-seconds mechanism, however without the heavy cost to manufacture. The mechanism was operated through the top chronograph button, while the lower button would stop it and when released allowed the time to catch up to the actual time. This was done via tension in a hairspring that built up as the chronograph button was held, and when released the hairspring unwound. The present mono-rattrapante Ref. 5347 is one of the best to be offered at auction. Not only is the case unpolished, but the dial has aged to a lovely tropical brown over the years, adding charisma to an already beautiful watch. Crisp and clean, with part of the case number stamped to the underside of the lug “779”, this watch is an excellent example of early 20th century innovation. It is Lot 941 of the #HKWA6, taking place on May 29 at the @mo_hkg.
